Description

Angela’s Ashes on four legs’ Evening Standard

A furry festive miracle who’s there for you with a helping paw. Percy definitely isn’t just for Christmas…

Percy is homeless, abandoned by his owner at an animal rescue centre on a cold winter’s night. So when he finds a loving new home with Gail and her family, his deepest wish is that this time, it’s forever.

Gail hopes that Percy will be the little miracle that her family so desperately needs. Her young daughter, Jenny, is in and out of hospital and she’s only just holding things together with her husband, Simon.

With the family at breaking point, and Christmas just around the corner, is Percy the furry friend they’ve all been waiting for?

Full of hope and utterly heartwarming, A Pug Like Percy is the perfect read for fans of A Street Cat Named Bob and Alfie the Doorstep Cat.

This is a light-hearted story about a clever little dog named Percy. He is adopted from the animal shelter by Gail, who falls in love with him on sight. Percy senses that Gail is a kindred spirit and is as vulnerable as he is and he is right. Gail and her husband Simon moved to London to be near Great Ormond Street hospital as their little girl, Jenny, is very ill, which has put a strain on their relationship. They have lost sight of the love they once had. From the first time Percy makes his new family smile he realizes that he can help them through their heartache, and with the help of his new canine friends from the park he makes a plan.
Everyone needs a Percy! He is fiercely loyal and eager to please, thinking of ingenious ways to put everything right, protective of Jenny from the start. He becomes a hero in ways the family never imagined. I did love the little group of dogs; their earnestness and resourcefulness, especially Bugsy the young and enthusiastic collie. This is a story about how pets make our lives better, with healing, friendship and love. It is also a lovely story of a family finding their way when threatened with losing everything they hold precious. No one could fail to be moved by Jenny’s story.
Christmas comes at the end of the book and is not a big focus, so this is a story you could read any time, but it is a heart-warmer. Cute, sweet and happy. If, like me, you enjoy animal stories such as Alfie the doorstep cat, you will love this.

As some one who has 4 rescue dogs and 6 rescue cats this book is right up my street.I love Percy what a fab character, I love the fact that he has a voice and we know what he is thinking.I love the way he interacts and is a big part of the family, this was a feelgood book and for me it worked.I have read other books that others raved over like The Art Of Racing In The Rain, great title but the book left me cold although it was popular with others. We all have different tastes and that is fine this book was warmer and more realistic for me and I
really enjoyed it.Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an Arc in return for an honest review
