Kim Dempster was born into a military family that was always on the move. She started school in England, and at eight, during the escalation of the Vietnam War, moved to Southeast Asia. Later, in 1977, her family moved to Iran, and it was there that she developed a deep fascination with the Middle East. From Beirut to Dubai to Istanbul, her lifelong exploration of the region has fostered enduring friendships with its women. Over three decades, Kim built a successful career as a producer and director in the film industry, shaping commercials, music videos, interactive projects, and narrative films. She directed numerous international ad campaigns, leaving her distinctive creative imprint on global brands. In 2016, she began writing screenplays, her first three scripts all reached the finals of the prestigious Academy Nicholl Fellowship. The Color of Mourning is her first novel.
