Description

High-horsepower power blenders are revolutionizing the kitchen habits of millions of people. These fast and convenient devices have many of the functions of the food processor, the juicer, and, of course, the old-fashioned, low-horsepower blender.

Vanessa Simkins' Power Blender Revolution is the first general cookbook for power-blender owners who want to get the most use and pleasure from their purchase. Power blenders make juices without sacrificing the nutritious fiber that juicing machines can't handle; they make purees (including baby foods), soups that are silky smooth and light; and they excel with hummus, guacamole, and other dips and spreads.

With a little instruction, you’ll be making healthy smoothies for breakfast. When dinner comes rolling around, you’ll know how to make every kind of sauce imaginable, for topping pastas, meats, potatoes, vegetables, and more. Time for dessert? You can't mix up a faster mousse, or a faster blend of ice-cream ingredients, in any other kind of machine.

With expert tips and tricks that help you choose, use, clean, and maintain your machine, and a bounty of more than 300 creative and tasty recipes, this book is an essential companion for anyone who has invested in a power blender.

"Power Blender Revolution is packed full of healthy, vibrant recipes and creative ways to use your blender. Vanessa Simkins proves that your blender isn't just for smoothies. These are recipes you will come back to time and time again.". --Tieghan Gerard, author of Half Baked Harvest

Blender talk. I bought my Vitamix six years ago. Ever since, I drink a green smoothie every day, and I’ve noticed I am sick far less often. I also notice if I skip a day because I’ll feel sluggish. I worship my Vitamix and have discovered it’s for so much more than just smoothies, as this book illustrates. Some recipes are marked vegan, and there are also vegetarian and meat-centered recipes.

Power Blender Revolution is a well-rounded instructional and recipe book for powerful blenders! I bolded each of the recipe sections below and highlighted some I can’t wait to try!

The Basics - cheeses, flours, etc. I love grating cheese in my blender because it’s quick and the clean-up is a breeze.

3 Day Juice and Smoothie Cleanses are outlined. It tells you what to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and desserts based on recipes in the book.

Things to Drink/Whole Food Juices These are great if you have a juicer.

Smoothies, Drinks, and Slushies

A couple things I want to try asap:
Kiwi Colada Smoothie with canned coconut milk
Sugar Cookie Smoothie with dates and cashews
Cherry Pecan Pie Smoothie with kale

Coffee Drinks, Matcha Drinks, and Creamers

Nut Milks and Other Nondairy Milks

Pistachio Milk! Macadamia Milk! Maple Almond Milk! Blueberry Cashew Milk!

Things to Eat! Jams, Butters, Syrups

Recipes for different chia jams and other jams are included. You can make your own salted butter in the blender!

Guacamoles, Hummus, and Other Dips and Spreads

Don’t these sound yummy?
Avocado Yogurt Dip
Almond Hummus
Raw Ricotta Cheese with macadamia nuts
Ketchup, Barbecue Sauce, etc.

Dressings, Vinaigrettes, Marinades, and Spice Blends

I can’t wait to try these two!
Watermelon Vinaigrette
Basil Walnut Dressing

Smoothie Bowls So popular these days!

Soups I love pureeing soups in my Vitamix!

Coconut Strawberry Dessert Soup
Gazpacho Andaluz

Entrees from the Blender

Pizza, meat dishes, Southwest Veggie Burgers.

Vegetable Sides

Slaws, relishes
Mashed potatoes
Mashed cauliflower
Sour Cream and Onion Kale Chips

Muffins, Pancakes, and Other Quick Breads

Cheddar Biscuits, Blueberry Almond Scones, Ricotta Oat Pancakes

Desserts from the Blender

Pina Colada Chia Pudding
Chocolate Coconut Oat Balls

Overall, I’m very pleased with Power Blender Revolution. I have tons of new and inventive ideas and recipes and can’t wait to try them. I wish it had more pictures, but I’m thrilled with the amount of content.

Thank you to Vanessa Simkins, Harvard Common Press/Quarto Publishing, and Netgalley for the ARC.

I'm eager to try all of the 300 recipes from this wonderful book! Very informative!

Great recipes for a variety of the machines, not just any one particular kind of power blender. Also, not just recipes for smoothies, or for a particular diet style in mind. This cookbook really lets you know all the various things you can do with your blender, reminding you it's not just for making drinks. There are spreads, dips, hummuses, soups, quick breads, etc. There's even a section on masks and washes you can use your power blender to make.

Author Vanessa Simkins has written a well-rounded cookbook that offers tips and recipes on how to get the most out of your high=speed high-power blender. You will find plenty of recipes and color photos in her cookbook called Power Blender Revolution. Some of the recipes you'll find include:

Dairy-Free Strawberry Milkshake
Coconut Creamer
Iced Caramel Frappe
Rice Milk
Cinnamon Apple Butter
Classic Ketchup
Sweet Vegan Ranch Dressing
Ginger Carrot Soup
Peach Ice Cream (Makes 2 cups perfect for serving up a sweet for a small group of diners)
Double Chocolate Ice Cream (Makes 1 cup perfect for dessert for two)
Sweet Potato Puree (baby food)
Honey Face Wash (a beauty item to cleanse the face)

Be aware you will find plenty of recipes that use nuts. If you have a nut allergy, you might want to borrow the book first to see if the recipes will work for you.

Recommend.

Very thorough super blender cookbook with recipes for food, drink and even beauty products. Learn how to make milks, butters, soups, smoothies, desserts, sides, entrees, baby food purees and more. Great recipes, and a lot of them, with bright photographs and tips to get the most out of a power blender.

The Power Blender Revolution has kept my VitaMix busy for the last week and will continue to keep it busy well into the future. I have used my blender for smoothies and occasionally for soup, but this book showed me how to use it for so much more.

This book has two sections to break the recipes into Part 1 Things to Drink and Part 2 Things to Eat. Each recipe starts with a brief introduction describing something about the recipe. The book is filled with vibrant pictures and each recipe notes if it is vegan, gluten free, dairy free, nut free, and/or low sugar to make it easier to use with any diet restrictions.

Some of my new favorite recipes (and these are just a sampling of the many recipes in this book) are:

Things to Drink:
Chapter 1 Whole Food Juices: Strawberry Pineapple Lemonade Juice, Cranberry Juice Crush, Simple Orange Juice, and Red Apple Juice. The apple juice is so much better than traditional store bough apple juice.

Chapter 2 Smoothie, Shakes, and Slushies: Berry Oat Breakfast Shake (who knew you could put oatmeal in a smoothie? The chapter also has recipes that include cashews, broccoli, and turmeric…) and Frozen Lemonade Slushie.

Chapter 3 Coffee Drinks, Matcha Drinks, and Creamers: this chapter wasn’t for me; I am not a fan of coffee.

Chapter 4 Nut Milks and Other Non-Dairy Milks: Cashew Milk, Chocolate Macadamia Milk, and several nut milks with fruit add-ins.

Things to Eat:
Chapter 5 Jams, Butters, and Syrups: Whipped Garlic Herb Butter and Chocolate Hazelnut Spread.

Chapter 6 Guacamoles, Hummuses, and Other Dips and Spreads: Caramelized Sweet Onion Dip, Simple Hummus (and all the hummus varieties), Spicy Cheese Guacamole, and Chicken Spread.

Chapter 7 All-Purpose Sauces, Pestos, and Condiments: Classic Ketchup, Cauliflower Alfredo Sauce, Arugula Lemon Pesto (this may be my favorite recipe in the whole book), and Vegan Sour Cream.

Chapter 8 Dressings, Vinaigrettes, Marinades, and Spice Blends: Strawberry Vinaigrette (the strawberries just add something amazing), Cilantro Lime Dressing (my new go-to salad dressing), Classic French Dressing, and Turmeric Ginger Vinaigrette.

Chapter 9 Smoothie Bowls: Peanut Butter Cup Smoothie Bowl and Lemon Crème Superfood Smoothie Bowl.

Chapter 10 Soups: (this is my favorite chapter…soup is so quick and easy in the blender!) Broccoli Cheddar Soup, Black Bean Soup, Spinach and Broccoli Soup, and Tomato, White Bean, and Basil Soup.

Chapter 11 Entrees from the Blender: Whole Wheat Margherita Pizza, Cauliflower Crust Pizza, and Mashed Chickpea Lettuce Wrap.

Chapter 12 Vegetable Sides: Classic Coleslaw (the blender makes shredding cabbage so easy!) and Cheese and Chive Cauliflower Mash.

Chapter 13 Muffins, Pancakes, and Other Quick Breads: Cheddar Biscuits, Classic Crepes, Broccoli and Cheese Frittata, Quinoa Flatbread Pita, and Pao de Queso Cheese Rolls.

Chapter 14 Desserts from the Blender: Peanut Butter Chocolates, No Bake Individual Cheesecakes, and Raw Strawberry Cheesecake.

Chapter 15: Sorbets, Ice Creams, and Popsicles: Strawberry Sorbet, Pineapple Whip Sorbet, Peach Ice Cream, and Double Chocolate Ice Cream (so easy and so good).

Chapter 16: Baby Food Purees: I don’t have a baby so I did not try any of the recipes in this chapter.

Chapter 17: Masks, Washes, and More for Your Skin: Avocado Oat Exfoliation Mask and Skin-Brightening Kiwi and Lemon Facial Mask.

The only downside to this book for me is I wish there were companion recipes. For instance there is a recipe for Green Enchilada Sauce, but no Enchilada recipe to go with it. I think that would have been a great addition to this book. However, I still feel that if you want to get the most out of your high powered blender, I suggest picking up this book!

Almost five years ago, I bought a Vitamix. I used to use it daily, making healthy smoothies for myself, but I never read or heard about different recipes until recently. When I read my goodreads friend Jennifer’s review for this book, I knew I wanted to read this and find some other ways to introduce some more creative and some more varied recipes. It’s more difficult to obtain quantities of fresh fruit, or even frozen depending upon where you live, but now that warmer days are approaching, I am looking forward to enjoying some fresh local fruit. After reading this book and looking at each and every recipe, most of which I was wishing I was sampling as I was reading the ingredients, I knew this was the incentive I needed.

With over 300 recipes, the sections include:

Power Blender 7-Day Clean Eating Plan
Power Blender 3-Day Juice and Smoothie Cleanse
Whole Food Juices
Smoothies, Shakes, and Slushies
Coffee Drinks, Matcha Drinks, and Creamers
Nut Milks and Other Nondairy Milks
James, Butters, and Syrups
Guacamoles, Hummuses, and Other Dips and Spreads
All-Purpose Sauces, Pestos, and Condiments
Dressings, Vinaigrettes, Marinades, and Spice Blends
Smoothie Bowls
Soups
Entrees From the Blender
Vegetables Sides
Muffins, Pancakes, and Other Quick Breads
Desserts From the Blender
Sorbets, Ice Creams, and Popsicles
Baby Food Purées
Masks, Washes and More for Your Skin: Body Wash, Face Wash, Body Scrub, Body Lotions, Exfoliation Masks, Skin Brightening Masks, Moisture Masks

There’s a balance of vegan and vegetarian and meat-based recipes. There’s also information on using your blender to grind meat, churn butter, and other things, depending on which blender you are using. I’m planning on buying a few copies of this, one for me, and the rest of my family.
Many thanks to my goodreads friend Jennifer, whose wonderful, and more detailed, review inspired me to read this. Please check out her review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I have a ninja blender set and make the basic smoothies. I wanted to find more things to use my blender for. I learned so much with this book. So many good tips, like the proper order to put food in the blender to blend properly. I spend a lot of time trying to blend my smoothies correctly. And the ideas and recipes I got were priceless. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has power blender.

I bought myself a little power blender. It sits on my counter-top, its tiny footprint unobtrusive while its larger food-processer cousin languishes in a cupboard. ‘Power Blender Revolution’ is the perfect companion for it. Bright, clear photos; simple recipes. This is everyday stuff. Smoothies, juices, soups and dips – of course – but also ice-creams, nut milks and even beauty products. These power blenders crush ice, so why didn’t I think of using it to make slushies? And without the additives you’d rather your kids didn’t have.
On the downside, there’s a small section on ‘clean-eating’ and a juice ‘cleanse’ – fine if you believe in that stuff – I found I could easily ignore it.
Last week I discovered that the shop-bought hummus I’d intended to use was finished. Aha , I thought, I’ll make my own! Then I discovered I didn’t have any chickpeas (well-organised as ever) but I did have a carton of black beans. In a fraction of the time it’d take to go to the shop, I whipped up Simkins’ Spicy Black Bean Dip – and very nice it was too.

Thank you so much, Quarto Publishing, for the opportunity to read this book early! When I received the email, I was thrilled because I knew that I would love this book. I didn't know how much though. This book will be my bible. I want to try every recipe in it. I have a lot of food intolerances, but I can easily switch ingredients for most of them. Can't wait to put my Vitamix to good use!!!

Over 300 great recipes that have replaced more than one meal in my life :) I love quick and easy blender drinks to do for breakfast or a snack and there are some combinations in here I hadn't considered that are going to be favorites going forward.

I learned so much about power blending and recipes. I had no idea there were so many options. This is a great guide for the Powder Blender Revolution. Find everything you need from list of tools to recipes. You want it -- you got it in this book.

There are a lot of good recipes here. Quick and easy to follow recipes, and best of all healthy,. I still want to try so many of the things in here.

I loved this book. It has great tips, that are practical. The order of which u should blend the food, what type of blender to buy and so much more. I tried a few of the recipies. I don't have a blender I used my kitchen stick, it worked okay. But this book has made me want a blender. Loved the recipies that I tried. All the recipies have the option of adding 'healthy sweetener' but they didn't need it. The author has cleverly created recipies with just the right combination of fort and veg to make it naturally sweet.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy from NetGalley for my unbiased opinion of the book. I really loved this book this is the quintessential guide to using your power blender to the fullest!!! Everyone who has this machine, this book is a must! I tried carrot lemonade juice, almond milk, classic pumpkin pie, and flourless walnut brownies all yummy!

This is amazing! It has so much information and so many recipes. Everything is in different sections, smoothies, food and it includes a clean eating and a cleanse plan. Plus skin and body washes. The layout is brilliant and the photos are fantastic. It even has UK measurements. A brilliant book.

Designed for the Vitamix, Blendtec, Ninja, and other high-speed, high-power blenders, the Power Blender Revolution was created to help you unlock their potential. Including recipes for everything from grains to skincare, this helps you do more than just juicing with your blender.

In the introduction, the author describes how in minutes you can make a healthy meal, It then goes on to promise much more. The Benefits Of Using A Power Blender follow with information on How To Use The Book, Tools And Accessories, Essential Advice, and Special Techniques.

Next comes the Power Blender 7-Day Clean Eating Plan, providing a seven-day meal plan with recipe names and page numbers. Next is a 3-Day Juice And Smoothie Cleanse if you want a quick detox.

The recipes categories are separated into two sections, Things To Drink, and Things To Eat. The recipes categories include:

Things To Drink

Whole Food Juices
Smoothies, Shakes, And Slushies
Coffee Drinks, Matcha Drinks, And Creamers
Nut Milks And Other Nondairy Milks

Things To Eat

Jams, Butters, And Syrups
Guacamoles, Hummuses, And Other Dips And Spreads
All-Purpose Sauces, Pestos, And Condiments
Dressings, Vinaigrettes, Marinades, And Spice Blends
Smoothie Bowls
Soups
Entrées From The Blender
Vegetable Sides
Muffins, Pancakes, And Other Quick Breads
Desserts From The Blender
Sorbets, Ice Creams, And Popsicles
Baby Food Purées
10 Masks, Washes, And More For Your Skin

Each of the recipes includes a brief introduction, serving sizes, and various labels to identify them as Vegan, Gluten-Free etc. Several also include tips for modifying the recipe, serving or making the best use of your blender.

Helpful And Surprising

Disappointingly only a few of the recipes included a picture although each of those is beautifully staged. I found that throughout the book the blending tips were very helpful in providing information that you wouldn’t necessarily find in an instruction manual but which could make the difference in a recipe.

Finding the Masks, Washes, And More For Your Skin recipes included in the Things You Can Eat section was very strange. Otherwise, I found the selection to be excellent.

The sheer variety of recipes which can be created with a blender was surprising. The fact that you can make so many different things with that one piece of equipment is convenient and helps keep down with the number of dishes you have to clean.

It’s great to see a book that’s not just a one trip smoothie. This book covers lots of different ways to use a power blender, from baby food to ice creams.

This book is split into two main sections: Things to Drink and Things to Eat, plus an Introduction to blending, a 7 day Clean Eating Plan and a 3 Day Juice and Smoothie Cleanse.

The Introduction provides useful information on the benefits of using a power blender, tools and accessories required, how to layer the ingredients the best way, plus a host of other information from grinding meat to making your own butter.

The Clean Eating Plan and Cleanse provide details on how to prepare your body before you start and suggestions for what to blend for each mealtime.

Things to Drink provides a number of recipes to make:

Whole Food Juices
Smoothies, Shakes & Slushies
Coffee Drink, Matcha drinks & Creamers
Nut milks & Other Non-diary Milks.
Things to Eat gives many recipes in the following categories:

Jams, Butters and Syrups
Guacamoles, Hummuses and other dips & spreads
All purpose Sauces, Pestos and Condiments
Dressings, Vinaigrettes, Marinades and Spice Blends
Smoothie Bowls and Soups
Entrees
Vegetable Sides
Muffins, Pancakes and other quick Breads
Desserts plus Sorbets, Ice Creams and Popsicles
Baby Food purees
Also included in the Things to Eat section is details on how to make Masks, Washes and More for the Skin. Who knew, looking after your skin could be done in a blender too!

Each recipe comes with easy to follow steps, metric and imperial measurements and some of the recipes have colour photographs. Some of the ingredients use American terms e.g. cilantro and scallions. A number of recipes do require some conventional cooking in the oven before the ingredients can be blended or heating up once blended.

There are tip boxes throughout the book, explaining things from what might damage your blender to a dressings serving suggestion.

I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.

Thank to Vanessa Simkins, Quarto Publishing Group – Harvard Common Press, and Netgalley for the advanced reader copy of “Power Blender Revolution: More Than 300 Healthy and Amazing Recipes That Unlock the Full Potential of Your Vitamix, Blendtec, Ninja, or Other High-Speed, High-Power Blender” for an honest review.

I love, love, loved this book. I loved first of all that it’s multipurpose across the products, no first come first serve, must have this one device to pass go, from the beginning. I love that at the beginning it tells you everything in this book will be broken down by vegan, gluten-free, dairy-fee, nut-free, and low sugar so that there will be things in here for people from every walk and way of life as well.

This book is broken down into drinks & eats, separately. The first covering juices, smoothies, shakes, slashes, coffee, teas, creamers, and any kind of alternative milk you could dream of. The latter is made of jams, butters, syrups, spreads, dips, sauces, pestos, condiments, dressings, marinades, smoothie & soup bowls, entrees, vegetables meal sides, muffins, pancakes, breads, desserts. You’ll even find a section on baby food making and for skin care products!

I love the layout of most of the chapters and pages. It could use a few more pictures, and pictures that are not simply 1/4th of a page spread, as they feel a little wedged in and only often enough to be checking a box sometimes, rather than displaying culinary delights to tease the eyes as well as the tongue.

Great for Blender newbies and those who had a Vitamix for years like me:)
Great book with loads of useful staple recipes.
If you don't have a blender book at home this is the one to get.

What a great book this was! I must confess that the cover made me think it was all about smoothies or generic recipes that included blending at some point, didn't expect much more than that. Once more, I found proof that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but I keep doing that time and again~

The recipes are amazingly varied (fasten your seat-belts):

Homemade non diary milks: nut milks and creamers (macadamia, pistachio, almond, cashew, coconut, Brazil nut, walnut) rice, oat, hemp and banana milk
Drinks: juices, smoothies, shakes, slushies, coffee drinks, matcha drinks
Jams, butters and syrups
Guacamoles, hummuses, dips and spreads
All-purpose sauces, pestos and condiments
Dressings, vinaigrettes, marinades and spice blends
Smoothie bowls
Soups
Entrees
Vegetable sides
Muffins, pancakes and other quick breads
Desserts
Sorbets, ice creams and popsicles
Baby food purées
Skin products
7-day cleaning plan, 3-day juice and smoothie cleanse

Drinks, sauces, dips and maybe soups weren't surprising to see in a blender recipe book but what amazed me was recipes such as how to chop cheese on the blender, grind homemade flours, coffee and condiments, make your own butter and even natural beauty products. I don't have a power blender but many of the recipes can still be achievable with a common blender. My favorite thing about this book is that the recipes are easy to make and include normal ingredients while remaining healthy. It has indications for vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free and low-sugar recipes and tips to make your life even easier in the kitchen. I tested some of the recipes and they were easy and super fast to make, perfect for those lazy days or for the hustler that can't afford to get sick or lose time in the kitchen.

Never did I imagine all that you can make in a super power blender until I read this book. The variety of recipes and ideas is amazing. Everything from baby food, coffee drinks, soups, nut flour and butter, juices, desserts, muffins and quick breads, dressings and even make up type face cleansing mask recipes too etc etc. the list goes on and on. The recipes are easy to follow. Not too many strange uncommon ingredients. Lots of pictures too. Excellent book! I would highly recommend it.
I received a digital copy from netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

I love my power blender, and thanks to this book I have a million other new recipes to try out. From juices and smoothies to soups to hummus and other dips, and everything in between. This book had me checking my fridge and pantry for ingredients, because I simply had to make the recipes NOW! An easy to understand instructional book that needs to be in everyone's kitchen!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I truly appreciate it!

Alas, I do not have one of the fancy blenders in this book, I have just a bog standard blender....but that might change in the future! I love smoothies and juices, it is a convenient way to get fruits and veggies without having to deal with the actual eating part (no offence various fruits, love your taste but not too keen on your textures...especially apples) so I am in favor of a very colorful book filled with various recipes for blending. If you have one of these fancy blenders (or just really like blending things) definitely give this book a look at.

This book is full of interesting recipes that would appeal to people who are new to 'blending' as well those who are experienced in this area but looking for a bit of inspiration.
The thing I really like about this book is the variety of recipes as it is not just smoothies and soups but includes ideas for things like breads, dips and desserts too!

As someone who was recently gifted a Vitamix, I was excited to see what interesting recipes would populate this book, and I was not disappointed. With everything from your typical smoothies and juices to things like cashew milk, Nutella, and pasta sauces, it really opened my eyes to all the things my blender can do. The recipes are innovative and diverse, and there's so many colorful photos too to inspire you. The author really makes a case for why your Vitamix can turn around your health. This would make a great accompanying gift to anyone getting a power blender of their own. I'm so glad I was given an ARC thanks to Quarto - Harvard Common Press.
