Description

The Complete Guide to Self Care features 100 accessible activities that help you reconnect with your body, mind, spirit, and surroundings, and leave you feeling refreshed and ready to face the world again.

Caring for yourself is far from selfish and self-care is far from a new phenomenon, but it’s recently been in the popular vernacular. With screens, work emails on our phones, notifications, and poor boundaries between ourselves and the world around us, taking time and making space for ourselves has become more and more important. Therapy, caring for plants, making your favorite dish…these are all little ways to reclaim parts of yourself that you’ve lost track of in the daily hustle of life.

With encouraging reminders, inspiring thoughts, easy wins, and practical advice, The Complete Guide to Self Care helps you identify your needs so you can relax, refuel, and find calm in your hectic life. This book tells you why mindset is key, how to nourish instead of punish yourself, how to exercise and sleep, and why it is important to go slow sometimes. You live your whole life being you, so why not be your own best friend?

The Complete Guide to Self Care is a book for people who need to relax, chill out, or recenter. You'll learn how to achieve this by:

  • Setting an effective and fruitful sleep schedule
  • Creating exercise routines and not feeling bad about falling off the bike
  • Saying no to things you don’t want to do (and things that maybe you do but don’t have space for)
  • Reading, writing, art, music, and all forms of expression that water our soul
  • Setting aside time that is only for you, no one else, no exceptions
  • Watering yourself and giving yourself proper nutrients

Super duper happy that I got the chance to read it. I'm really glad because this book is a really good one who gives you some tips and some receipts to take care of yourself. For me, the best part, was about food, about how to disconnect social media and also have some gratitude with yourself.

I know that this is a book that I'm going to buy just to re-read some parts and to make the exercise. I feel like it's the start of a long journey...

I think I just found my new self-care Bible!
Who doesn’t need some self love or to take a few minutes out of their day to themselves?
I loved this self help book that covered different aspects of self care, like mind, body and spirituality. Not only was it a very pretty book with nice design and photographs, but it is interesting and has good advice to practise some self love. The exercises are easy to practice in your day to day life.
I’ve been in a bit of a life slump, and I need to be more kind to myself. I am definitely going to start practicing some points in my daily life.

This is a lovely book with a wide variety of ways to take care of yourself, well illustrated with beautiful stock photos throughout. It's broken into categories of physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual self care. Examples of the individual activities are yoga, stretching, meditating, using a face roller, making simple facial oils and cleansers, volunteering as a way to make new friends, cutting back on social media that doesn't nourish you, reading (always a big one for me!), painting, making a vision board, grounding (walking barefoot), getting enough sleep (with very helpful tips on how to do that), learning a new skill, making a happy playlist, learning to say no, focusing on chakras, using journal prompts, and much more. Helpful steps are given for each activity.

Do note that the spiritual section is more along the lines of new age spirituality and not traditionally religious. Some people may not like the focus on things like chakras and manifestation instead of prayer and more traditional spirituality. I think there's enough here otherwise that folks can just take what they find useful and leave the rest, which is what I did.

I already do much of the stuff in this book. I've learned as a busy mom of 5 that self care is part of a healthy life and it's simply part of my routine as much as cooking supper is. I get the feeling I'm in the minority though, and this book is a lovely way to get some ideas if you feel the need.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

This book opened my eyes. I'm not much for self help type books but as a mom, nurse and wife I figured this book couldn't hurt to read. Not only did it not hurt, it helped me immensely. Loved it!

A fabulous book with tons of helpful tips and ideas to self care. We are all guilty of not looking after ourselves and this book reminds us that even the simple things can have an effect. It also gives you recipes and exercises to complete.

The book is in sections, and they are Physical, Intellectual, Social, Emotional and Spirtual. This makes is easy if you realise one area needs addressing over any others.

I love the colourings throughout the book, it certainly gives a self care, calming feel.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

This book came to me at the perfect time. " The Complete Guide to Self-Care has helped me to get through this time of chaos and uncertainty in the world. I am a preschool teacher in Istanbul, who is off now for 3 weeks because of the coronavirus. Let's just say being at home alone after being surrounded by children and other adults had left me lonely. Thankfully this book has given me so many wonderful ideas about how to nurture and love myself that I am enjoying this seclusion. I have created a vision board of the things that I want to see, do and learn while at home. It has given me much needed time to reflect on the things that I need to take care of myself as well as shown me how to support and love the people I hold near and dear to my heart. I believe in order to be a better person, mother, wife, sister, and friend, that you must take care of yourself both mentally as well as physically. You must love yourself first in order to love others well. This book renewed my spirit in a way that I never expected. Thank you for letting me review this advance copy.

Here’s a book that seems to capture the zeitgeist right now. With so much of the world in ‘lockdown’, self-care has assumed an unprecedented importance.
In this book, the term ‘self-care’ has a pretty broad remit, ranging from exercise and sleep, through the kind of activities you can do in isolation ( writing, reading , music ) to a brief section on ‘spiritual’ self-care (not for me!)
There are probably few ideas in here that you haven’t heard before, but the little exercises dotted throughout and the aspirational , light-filled photos , make this a little treat to enhance your social- distance lifestyle.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.

Oh my! What a pretty book! I never thought I've seen a prettier book ever!

And on that note, I really love how the book totally incorporate between telling and doing. We had two or three exercises/'doings' in each section so we wouldn't feel lost.

I particularly love the use of pretty pictures, the layout, and the overall theme. It truly embodies the self-care thing.

I really liked the easy to read layout of this book. Lots to dip in and out of and some great tips. I liked the illustrations and particularly the part on routines.

A beautiful coffee table book with over 100 self-care exercises and tips, split categorically in to different aspects of one's life. For individuals familiar with basic self-care techniques, this book may seem somewhat basic - however, it's packed with stunning photographs and imagery, alongside easy-to-follow instructions.

I particularly found some sections and instructional guides, such as the mindfulness 'five senses exercise' and guide to stretches, more helpful than others (e.g. how to enjoy the sunlight'). It seems as if there are a smattering of seemingly obvious, or redundant instructional guides... but these may provide perspectives that many millennials, engrossed more in the wonders of technology than self care, may not have taken in to consideration.

Overall, great book. Would buy as a gift for a good friend or relative, especially throughout this pandemic. 4/5 stars.

I requested this book on NetGalley. I was really attracted to the pastel colours and aesthetics of the cover page, so I really excited to dive into the rest of the book.

The book is separated into separate categories, including body, mindfulness, creativity, nature, and more. It includes a few outdoor activities, but also has an abundant number of prompts that could be done at home (especially nice for quarantine)

I absolutely recommend this book. It’s an amazing compilation of ideas and in-depth prompts that can last you months. Especially now that we’re in quarantine, I think this would be a nice essential book to have by your side. In addition to activities, it teaches recipes and natural home-made skin care concoctions, which caters to those who want a crafting experience.

I personally really enjoyed the mindfulness section, that gave ideas on ways to journal. In addition to the activity, the book follows up with many examples and extra prompts to get your started. I’ve also kept note of some activities that will allow my mind to wander, like making my own happiness playlist or to try calligraphy. It’s more than just a list, but a complete guide to self-care.

This is one of the more holistic books on self-care i've found so far. Giving advice on incorporating self-care into aspects of your life such as your beauty routine, sleep routine, how you eat, and feeding your brain. I also really enjoyed the photography and art in the book.

Content:
Self-care is more and more important these days. Taking our time and making space for ourselves is the best thing we can do. Not only the big things count, but also the little things we do for our own good. This book contains encouraging reminders, inspiring thoughts, practical advices and a whole lot of activities and tips for taking care of ourselves. It is not a strict bible but more like an adviser and strengthener for mental health. From only saying no to certain things up to yoga, everything is in there. Also, there is no rule about where to start. You can just pick whatever you need right now.

Opinion:
I really enjoyed reading through this and doing stuff that is in there. It actually helped me to get more concentrated and to calm down. The notes and tips are inspiring and pretty helpful. I think I will use it more often now, because it also was funny and interesting to read. I’ve never read any adviser like this before and I’m glad I found this book. There is actually nothing I would change and nothing that was negative about it. In my opinion, it is perfect.

Conclusion:
All in all, I really, really liked this book a lot. It is so important these days to look after ourselves and this book is the perfect support and guide through self-care. So, I would totally advice it!

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC of this book.

This is one of the beautiful self-care books I've ever read. The aesthetic were so eye-pleasing, the pictures and all the tips were just beautiful. I want to re-read this book. Everything was clear and properly said. This would be a great coffee table book. I don't like self-help books, but this was definitely an exception. Overall a nice book and will recommend it to everyone.

Man, do we need this book right now.. It debunks the self-care is buying yourself an expensive bath bomb and taking a picture of your bath myth that seems to be all over social media. There are many types of self-care and this book does a fantastic job of explaining them in easy to understand terms. This is the kind of book I want to have on my nightstand. The photos are stunning. The self-care exercises/activities are bite sized and can be applied as needed. The author makes sure to have you understand that selfcare is multifaceted and not one size fits all. She does a wonderful job explaining concepts that most people are still unfamiliar with. If you have struggled with your self-care routine, get yourself a copy of this book.

The state of the world right now has just about everybody a little more on edge, and if you’re like me, and deal with an abnormal amount of anxiety on a good day, an expansive self-care guide could be just what the doctor ordered. The Complete Guide to Self-Care introduces a vast variety of self-care techniques that encompass everything from spa pampering to meditation.

There were several things I enjoyed about The Complete Guide to Self-Care. It was refreshing that Ely included self-care techniques that weren’t just tied to spa-like treatments, which tends to be what most people steer towards when they think of self-care. She included a lot of self-reflection and intellectual self-care strategies, such as reading, journaling and music therapy. All sections came with an explanation of the care type and the ways they could be incorporated into a self-care routine. Most sections also included exercises as ways for you to get started on your self-care journey.

I also enjoyed the section on chakras. I had heard about them before but had never taken the time to research any deeper, so having a brief introduction and description of the different types was extremely interesting to read. However, beyond that section, most of the information in this book was rather basic self-care info. The exercises were a nice touch, but if you’re a self-care veteran, you probably won’t gain too much from reading this book. If you’re new to self-care, this one's for you!

This is a brilliant book for either yourself or to give as a gift. This really gives you so many ideas and inspiration for different types of self care. The book brings down self care into so many different sections such as yoga, beauty and cooking and includes positions for yoga and recipes to make your own face masks. All this is in a very aesthetically pleasing packaging.

A soothing, brightly colored volume on self-care, that much-used term for maintaining your physical, mental, and spiritual health. The layout is reminiscent of a lifestyle magazine (especially Real Simple), with punchy headlines, numbered lists, still-life photography, and pink pages. (This is not a bad thing--I love Real Simple, and find it very calming to read, even if I won't put 90% of it into practice right away.) Includes recipes, yoga stretches, writing prompts, decluttering tips, and more. Very timely for our current quarantine--I only wish the book was available now!

The Complete Guide to Self Care is a timely topic and much needed for anyone struggling with making it through any kind of personal stress or a pandemic.
We hear all of the time that to take care of others we have to take care of ourselves first. This book is a well written and illustrated example of being good to yourself so you can do good for others.

Step One in Self Care...read this book and put it into practice.

This book is simple to understand and concise with regards to concepts and explanations. Some ideas here may not be new but reminders of what you should be doing for your physical and mental well-being. As with most self-help books, I say chew the meat and spit out the bones. That means either apply these suggestions you feel you can incorporate into your life now, save some to attack later, or ignore. Good book to own so you will be able to make notes and keep yourself on track.
I received an advanced reader copy from NetGalley in exchange for my volunteer review.

I thought this was one of the best books for self care that I have completed in a long time. I really like that it was divided into 5 sections (Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Spiritual and Social). I love the author's descriptions and her own experiences throughout but she does it tastefully without being preachy, which is so nice about this book. I enjoyed the recipes too and definitely am going to try them... a self care book with food; yes, please! Of some of the current self help books out there, I highly recommend this one because it is positive and not preachy. Very thoughtfully written.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I will definitely be recommending this to my massage clients.
