Yesterday ended in disaster. Very late at night, I decided to  write down everything that had happened; the only way I could think of coping. So here goes. 

So begins Michèle Roberts’s intimate and honest account of  the year after her latest novel has been rejected by her then publisher. 

In twelve chapters, each one set over the course of a day  each month, Michèle reckons with the hurt and depression caused by the rejection. She rewrites and edits her novel, reconnects with and loses treasured friends, ultimately finding acceptance and understanding. 

Set half in South London and half in the Mayenne in France,  where Michèle divides her time, Negative Capability is an intelligent, sensitive and honest memoir, about friendship, survival and resilience.
