Description

ARE YOU RUNNING OR LAUNCHING A BUSINESS?

IS YOUR BUSINESS COMMUNICATION CRYSTAL CLEAR?

IF NOT, WHY NOT?

Perhaps you need a book to grab you by the hand, make you look at things from entirely fresh angles, teach you to trust your instincts, and signpost expensive pitfalls before you trip over them.

Getting it Write is built on a feet firmly on the floor philosophy, as well as on years of experience in launching and writing for successful businesses - scars, t-shirts and cynicism as proof. Showing you there are no absolute rights, wrongs or rules, it shares options, opinions, suggestions and most important of all, demonstrates how and why common-sense is the common denominator for success - once you learn to trust yourself.

COMMUNICATION HAS TO BE CRYSTAL CLEAR,

BECAUSE IF IT’S NOT CLEAR, IT’S NOT COMMUNICATION!

Getting It Write has a style which will likely either endear itself to readers or simply annoy the reader. The fact is there are plenty of helpful tips here. Messik doesn't beat around the bush. She offers straightforward advice. One example is you have to know yourself and your business goals because if you don't, how in the world can you expect strangers to know?

Some of her attempts to be peppy and funny fell flat. The fact is marketing is one of the most misunderstood concepts out there, but to call it a "state of mind" is a bit preposterous. Some will find this funny, but it doesn't feel especially helpful. Marketing doesn't have to be all serious, but it is without question more than just a state of mind. Now, all of this isn't to say that Messik isn't humorous at all. Her writing style is to give you the facts in a terse manner, give you the basics while throwing a little humor to make it more interesting.

Again, some people will leave the brief nature of the book, while others will yearn for more content. Personally, I enjoyed the brief nature. She gets to the point and makes the chapters easy to digest. In a lot of how-to books, it is easy to become overwhelmed when an author spends 30 pages talking about how to formulate a business name, but Messik keeps it concise and let's you know the important points without jumping into extraneous information to try to pad the page count. There is plenty of valuable information here, although none of it is revelatory. If you are looking for straightforward writing encouragement or need a little extra in business-specific communication, I would recommend this book.

I absolutely adored this!

From the fun and on point title, to the practical advice given whilst not adopting a sort of preachy tone like other books in the genre, to short, clearly outlined points with bullet lists and even examples of texts (that are correct, depending on what the aim of the text is) - all very good to see.

Subtle differences can make or break your about page (I agree wholeheartedly with what little experience I have writing them, but I've read quite a few of them I have to say). Very informative and I'll take away quite a few points from this, though my career path is now on a different trajectory (I've moved away from content writing), I found this very helpful and I'm absolutely thrilled I gave it a chance. The author know what they're talking about for sure.

Want to start your own business? READ this bok first! WHY? Because Marilyn walks you through ALL the basics- from planning what you are selling/offering, to how to get it seen and used (bought). From how to pick out a business name (more complicated than you might think, as you have to think AHEAD), to how that name can be used wrongly with PR, and how to achieve an excellent PR reach, using proper technique and easy to use steps. Yes, YOU can be your own PR machine, and do it quite well with this book! Even if you already have a business going, reading the book can help you add a new perspective to what you want to achieve, and how to make it happen!

For those involved in community agencies, organizations or service groups, this book is also a great read! many of the simple promotional ideas can be easily implemented with great success by all of these groups as well. It really is a resource for everyone! I also recommend it for homeschoolers! If you have a child who wants to own their own business, it would be easy to use this book with consumer/business math, and make a full elective credit for them in Business 101!

A clear guide on copywriting for your business, with actual examples that were very helpful. She gives examples and tells you what works and what doesn't, and ways to do better. She also tells you why you need these certain things and makes you think about what you are really trying to convey. The thing I did not like about this book, and what hindered me from not being able to put it down (I stopped reading it often), was the formatting. I love words, but on my phone there were very long paragraphs, little tabbing to differentiate between paragraphs, and not near enough whitespace. That was a bit exhausting for me where I would only read a little at a time instead of what I would normally read. Other than that, this book offers a lot of business savvy copywriting tips and lessons for anyone.
