A wonderful and adorable instructional book for papier mache! This book gives a straightforward, but detailed overview from needed materials, methods, and a variety of projects. Beautiful, colorful, step-by-step pictures accompany all of the unique projects. Some of the projects include: planter, ornaments, bracelets, birds, etc. This is a perfect place to start if you're looking to learn papier mache. I only wish this book was longer! Though the projects include provide a huge variety of methods/materials that can be used in whatever project you think to create. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.

Review to come February 27th on blog/goodreads. I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review. <!--more--> It has been many years since I last did Papier Mache so I was curious about this book and especially that adorable project on the cover! However, I have to say the writer's papier maching (is that a word) is WAY different than what I learned in elementary school. Haha, we just blew up balloons in various degrees, had that sticky stuff, newspapers, and went to wrapping newspapers in strips around the balloon, then add the sticky stuff as we did so, then wait, more waiting and pop the balloon and get it out, paint your creations and done. So I haven't done any of the projects as I barely have any of the materials at home that are required by this book. This one requires A TON of items. Hot glue guns that I don't have (as the hobbies I have don't require that), you need paperbags + something called shop towels (I still have no clue what those are), you need sealant in various sorts, you need paint, you need cardboard, you need, well I guess you get the idea. I am just not sure if this is a hobby I want to pursue, not to mention, at the time of writing (January 29th) POSTNL (our postal service) is totally overworked and packages don't always get home. I cannot go to the stores, not to mention that even if stores are open I would need to travel to a nearby city to find a crafts store that may have the items. That is just not safe. If only this book was about papier mache the way we kids did it at school and at home. Balloon + newspapers or fun coloured papers + that watery mache stuff, and done. But I did enjoy reading the book and the projects are truly great fun! They are definitely not boring, instead I was very curious about trying them, but alas I cannot. But they are adorable (like those birds, or that cheer team you could make (which I could definitely use)) or useful. I wouldn't mind making a cute planter for my plants. Now that I got my own home my windows downstairs have all the plants and a cute planter would make everything even more fun! The projects are easy to follow with simple step by step instructions including pictures along each step. There are also tips and hints and suggestions. I also love that at some points the oven times were both in Celsius and Fahrenheit. Thanks, because I live in the rest of the world and we use Celsius. Haha. :P So, if you are looking into investing in a whole new hobby and you got the money and the means to do so, I would definitely recommend this book to start your projects! Fun projects, easy to follow, and tons of cuteness!

NetGalley ARC Educator 550974 A delight to read. The author explained all of the steps, tools needed, as well as, a wealth of examples. An instruction manual is considered great if it provides clear and easy to follow steps, along with photos so that the crafter can check their process. Many kids and adults will have a marvelous time creating fun.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers. Papier Mache is a really cute project book with some adorable projects to make. The equipment needed is cheap enough to buy if you haven't already got it at home and junk can be used for these projects too such as plastic bottles, toilet roll tubes, boxes etc. This book starts with materials and recommendations to use along with tips and recipes to make your paper mache glue. Then it goes on to the projects which all look simple enough and fun to make. As a TA I am always looking for new ideas to do with the children I work with, and this book has given me some fantastic ideas of projects to make with them in school especially during lockdown with the key worker children attending school, and to give ideas to the children at home too. My favourite in the book are the picture frames and planters.

What an adorable how-to guide with the most whimsical paper mâché projects! I love the quirky folk art feel to it. Includes easy instructions with gorgeous color photos for making jewelry, gifts, dolls, animals, and more. A treat for crafters seeking new ideas and families who love to do projects together. 5 of 5 Stars Pub Date 02 Mar 2021 #PapierMache #NetGalley Thanks to the author, Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

An adorable book for people who feel like being crafty with easily accessible things around the house. The exemples are adorable, the instructions very clear, the pictures very cute and the listing of ingredients, the 2 pastes recipes and all those little extras really make the difference. This is a great thing to do with the kids and I had been looking for a guide after a failed attempt a few month back. I live in a very hot and humid area of the world and my projects had not only refused to dry but also started to mold the very next day. I had hoped for the book to give little hints for people in tropical regions like me, or other problems encountered by newer people in that craft. But no. I guess it isn’t the point of the book - which is more to help you create specific pieces. For people in my situation - from what i gleaned on internet, you can add salt to the paste to help it stay mold-free as your creation dries.

Papier Mache is an exuberant and appealing tutorial and technique guide by Sarah Hand. Due out 2nd March 2021 from Quarto on their Walter Foster imprint, it's 128 pages and will be available in paperback format. This is a fun tutorial guide for all ages to making and styling papier mache sculptures. I liked the book's logical layout and the author's easy to understand writing style and instructions. It includes a good introduction with chapters covering tools and supplies, basic general techniques, and finishing instructions. The following chapters include 13 really appealing and colorful projects. The tutorials each have a description, tools and materials lists, and step-by-step instructions accompanied by clear full color photos of each step. The projects and finished objects are simple, folksy, and primitive (in a good way). The techniques taught in the book could of course be utilized to create finished objects of whatever style the crafter wishes. This would be a good choice for home crafting library, public or school library, maker's groups, activity groups and similar. Four stars. Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I love this book! I love the projects and the ideas, and I especially love that it’s aimed at adults. Most of the time people think of paper mache as that crappy science project we had to do with the planets. There’s so much more! I’d definitely buy this book for myself

Such cute looking things. Imagine being able to make them. You can put as few or as many details to your papier mache. Cute useful things to unleash your creativity as well as help you organize.

--Make a Sticky Mess and Watch it Become Art-- I received an advanced review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley, and here are my thoughts. First of all, I was immediately attracted by the whimsical characters on the cover. If you like the cover, too, then you will LOVE the contents. Inside, you will find careful, step-by-step instructions (with plenty of photos) that would be easy enough for a child of say, above seven or eight, to read and figure out how to do by themselves, because it is not rocket science. It is stirring up a sticky paste and then applying it to different forms you have made out of cardboard and foil, etc. However, adults should consider giving it a go...there is much fun to be had. If you have a look at the book preview, you will see the projects are mostly "decorative", with some ideas for making planters and also wearable art such as a bracelet, necklace, and a crown. How about making a pet portrait? Or a bird to befriend (or scare) the real birds in your garden? Once you learn the technique, the sky is the limit! And you probably have EVERYTHING you need to get started in papier mache already in your house. If you have flour or cornstarch, cardboard, foil, a utility knife, masking tape....things along those lines are all you need to get started. Papier mache is also a freeing sort of art...people tend to have expectations of a "good" drawing...but as we're not so used to papier mache...this could be just the thing your perfectionist child (or inner child) needs to free them from judgements of not being an artist. Hmm...

Fun book to do with the kids and can be adapted to projects that can be bigger and more involved. The basics of papier mache is very well cover in this book with full color pictures and step by step instructions. The projects are birds, alpacas, a giant ice cream and pet portraits and many more. The technique is very sturdy and I had a friend that made a little secretary out of papier mache. Good for pinatas too

A charming volume of adorable creatures you can make with a few simple supplies. Would be fun for families with kids, adult craft circles, or even just a weeknight at home. Approachable and inexpensive to start. Plus the final products are super cute!

I have never done anything in papier mache, but every single project in this book is so cute, I'd be willing to try if that's going to be the end result!
