Description
Noelle Nichols must make it back to her small hometown for the most important deadline of her life. She’s jobless, newly single, and desperate to claim her inheritance before Christmas Eve—or risk losing everything.
When a snowstorm throws Noelle’s plans into the kind of madness only New York winters and canceled flights can bring, she lets loose on the wrong man: Captain Kol Vinter, the tough, ex-military airline pilot who’s suddenly in her way—and, annoyingly, the only person who can help her get home.
Stuck at LaGuardia, at the mercy of a snow apocalypse blowing in and airline chaos, Kol’s not exactly thrilled with Noelle’s fiery complaints about his airline, but something about her unguarded tears pulls him in.
When Kol catches Noelle wishing she’d never been born, he makes her an offer that could change both their lives: a one-way trip to Saratoga Springs, the quintessential Christmas town that’s lost all its magic for Noelle…until now. Kol stopped believing in holiday magic long ago. After offering this sassy spitfire a ride, all Kol can think about is how bad of an idea this is. What begins as a bumpy ride soon turns into something steamier than hot cocoa by the fire, with moments that ignite hotter than any flaming marshmallow. But Kol isn’t your typical holiday hero—he’s got scars of his own and walls he’s not keen to let down.
Noelle’s sassy exterior can only keep them both at arm’s length for so long, especially as she rediscovers the joy of the season in the town she used to call home. He may be a grumpy “guardian angel,” but what if he’s exactly who Noelle’s been waiting for? Will Kol’s protective heart and smoldering presence be enough to remind her that life—even when it’s messy and shadowed by loss—can still be wonderful? Filled with snowball fights, spicy encounters, and small-town holiday charm, Christmas Cancellation is a heartfelt retelling of a Christmas classic that will have you laughing, crying, and believing in love all over again.

Book Review: Christmas Cancellation by Evie James
Evie James’s Christmas Cancellation is a modern holiday romance with a heartfelt twist on the classic It’s a Wonderful Life. Set against a backdrop of snowy delays, charming small-town holiday scenes, and unexpected encounters, the novel follows Noelle Nichols, who’s facing more than her share of challenges. Jobless, freshly single, and racing against the clock to claim her inheritance by Christmas Eve, Noelle’s holiday hopes are dashed when a snowstorm grounds her flight out of New York. Stuck in the chaos of LaGuardia, she unleashes her frustration on Captain Kol Vinter, a stoic, ex-military pilot whose brusque exterior conceals a much softer side.
Kol, who is initially less than pleased with Noelle’s fiery attitude, becomes intrigued when he witnesses her moments of vulnerability. When Noelle, overwhelmed by her circumstances, lets slip a wish that she’d never been born, Kol offers to drive her to her hometown of Saratoga Springs, a Christmas haven that has lost its magic for her. The ensuing road trip, filled with holiday mishaps, forced proximity, and undeniable chemistry, becomes the catalyst for both of them to rediscover not just the magic of Christmas, but a spark that seems to light up the holiday season in new and unexpected ways.
The "grumpy-sunshine" dynamic between Kol and Noelle adds depth and warmth to their interactions. Noelle’s spirited, resilient nature brings out a softer side in Kol, whose tough exterior is matched only by his fiercely protective nature. The "one bed" trope leads to hilarious and heartwarming moments as they awkwardly navigate their growing attraction in close quarters. Kol’s gradual shift from detached pilot to attentive companion, who helps Noelle see her worth and reframe her pain, feels natural and tender. Ashenden balances this developing romance with humor and touching scenes that keep the tone both light and heartfelt.
The book’s small-town setting of Saratoga Springs feels alive with holiday cheer and festive details, from snowball fights to cozy fireplaces, which contribute to Noelle’s emotional journey as she returns home. As she reconnects with her past and wrestles with old memories, she begins to heal and find joy in the season again. Meanwhile, Kol’s own reluctance to believe in Christmas magic, tempered by a difficult past, adds complexity to his character, making him more than just a holiday romance hero. His gradual acceptance of love and belonging brings out the story’s central themes of second chances and redemption.
In Christmas Cancellation, James combines classic holiday romance tropes with a modern, fresh twist, creating a story that balances emotional depth with lighthearted moments. Fans of forced-proximity, enemies-to-lovers, and opposites-attract romances will find plenty to enjoy in Noelle and Kol’s story. This novel is perfect for anyone looking for a feel-good holiday read that emphasizes healing, self-discovery, and the joy of unexpected love.
With its blend of holiday charm, sizzling chemistry, and tender moments, Christmas Cancellation is a cozy and heartwarming romance that captures the magic of second chances in both life and love. Evie James has crafted a delightful, festive tale that will leave readers laughing, crying, and rooting for Noelle and Kol to find their happily-ever-after. This book is ideal for curling up by the fire with a hot cocoa—guaranteed to leave readers believing in the magic of the season.
This book was so good. I read it in one sitting and it's crazy that the book takes place Uber just a few days time. Kol ( pronounced coal) and Noelle (see the Christmas theme already) meet when her flight out of New York City to Albany New York gets canceled.-- noel needs to get to Saratoga in order to sign some legal papers by the end of the day deadline, Unbeknownst to Noelle well, she's on the phone venting, to her bestie. Kol who was the pilot of the cancel flight over hears her misconceptions about why the flight was cancelled and kind of tells her off when she's done talking to her friend. They have some verbal sparring as Paul is walking away, he in a moment of weakness feels bad and invites her to drive with him home. He lives not far from saratoga and can bring her to the lawyer, she agrees and off they go in in the bright red bronco (keeping the Christmas theme) while they battle the winter storm to try to make it to saratoga by the deadline during the drive, they get to know each other better. While still keeping their secrets at bay, both having a hard time with the holiday- the storm gets worse and worse, and they end up spending christmas together
This book is a lot of things. A little bit spicy a little bit cheesy, but all heart i admit to breaking down in tears once-- the author ties the book very well together at the end and I enjoyed it very much. The book is told with perspective of both Kol and Noelle which I enjoyed- i also loved the easter egg of the decoration at the beginning of each chapter this was a heartwarming Christmas tale
Great book. The plot and characters were realistic. I couldn’t put the book down. It was paced to make the book just the right length.
**Book Review: *Christmas Cancellation* by Evie James – 4 Stars**
*Christmas Cancellation* by Evie James is a heartwarming holiday romance that blends cozy Christmas vibes with deeper emotional moments. When Noelle and Kol meet after a canceled flight, they’re forced to spend the holidays together in a small town, and what starts as forced proximity quickly turns into an unexpected romance. The opposites attract dynamic between the two is engaging—Kol is the supportive, understanding presence Noelle needs to heal from her past, and their chemistry is undeniable.
While their relationship progresses quickly (thanks to a bit of insta-love), their connection feels real, especially as Kol helps Noelle work through her grief. The book delivers a satisfying HEA and offers a perfect balance of lighthearted fun and emotional depth. The spice was also excellent.
One of the highlights of this book is the witty banter between Kol and Noelle. Their playful exchanges bring a lot of charm to the story, adding humor and warmth to their budding relationship. It’s clear they enjoy each other’s company, and their quick wit helps balance the more emotional moments, making their connection feel all the more authentic.
I really did enjoy this book, most of the books I’ve read this week are holiday/Christmas romances so this was perfect to add to my list! Some of the topics discussed in this book were a bit heavier than I expected for a holiday romance and I don’t think I was prepared for it but I think it was written very well and I loved seeing how being with Kol helped Noelle deal with her past. When Kol and Noelle met in an airport after a cancelled flight neither of them expected to be spending the holidays together or to fall in love. This book was very insta-lust/love where the characters fell in love within very few days. However, they did get to know each other well. During their time together they found out silly get to know you questions and the darker sides of each other. Both characters had baggage from their past that they were dealing with. Noelle especially learned to finally allow herself to grieve and work through things that she’d been ignoring with a little help from Kol who happened to know exactly what to do and say. I really liked that he was there and helped her deal with her grief. I think it brought them together and it’s one of the reasons why I’m okay with how quickly the relationship moved. There was also some spice in this book that happened very early on in their relationship that was very fun but also very intimate for how long they knew each other. Overall this book did give me the cozy Christmas vibes and I thought the relationship was very cute. The one little thing I didn’t love was the nickname that he gave her in the beginning just because I don’t think it sounded very cute and it wasn’t meant to at first but I was hoping he would change it or alter it at least once they started getting to know one another.
Cancelled flight, grumpy sunshine pilot & a story about finding yourself among the holidays…if this intrigues you, you will eat up “Christmas Cancellation”. Kol + Noelle find themselves in a forced proximity situation when the grumpy pilots flight plans are cancelled and the newly unemployed blonde are thrown together at the airport on a stormy day before Christmas. With her need to get to her aunts hometown before the end of the day, Kol steps in and assists her in getting her to Saratoga Springs safely as well as navigating grief she’s been holding in for years.
This story was a mixture of light hearted and deep but a holiday book that will leave you with all the warm fuzzy feelings.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

Christmas, strangers, a snowstorm and a road trip across the country - this started off a charming, wholesome Christmas tale and halfway through did a full 180 into a sexy romance novel.
It was good, the setting was great, the characters even better and I loved the glimpses into their pasts. I thought it could have done with slightly less raunch, but I may have been so caught up in the idea of a sweet Christmas read that it took me by surprise. The raunchy parts were well written - there was just.... a lot of it.
I loved the small twist with the inheritance and the softening of both characters as they became more comfortable with each other and dropped their facades. Can't wait to read more by Evie James.
In Christmas Cancellation, Noelle’s life is in shambles—she’s lost her job, faced betrayal, and is now stuck in a snowstorm that could alter her future. Enter Captain Kol Vinter, a rugged, no-nonsense man with his own struggles. As they navigate forced proximity and romantic tension, their journey unfolds like a modern It’s a Wonderful Life, filled with self-discovery, healing, and unexpected love. The story combines Christmas warmth with real emotional depth, witty dialogue, and a hint of spice. Ultimately, it’s a heartwarming reminder that even amidst life’s chaos, something wonderful can emerge.
I have never read an Evie James book before and let me tell you… this will not be the last! I loved this book soooo much. Okay going to read everything in her backlog now..
This book was hilarious. I really enjoyed the characters and their personalities. I would definitely recommend this book!
Christmas Cancellation by Evie James is a delightful holiday romance that combines all the best tropes—forced proximity, opposites attract, and a snowed-in getaway—into a heartwarming and steamy read. Noelle Nichols is at her wit's end, jobless and desperate to make it home in time for a life-changing inheritance. Enter Kol Vinter, the grumpy ex-military pilot who’s the only one standing between her and the Christmas deadline. What begins as a stormy encounter at LaGuardia turns into a sizzling ride to her small hometown, where sparks fly both literally and figuratively.
I loved the chemistry between Noelle and Kol. Their banter is fiery, and their emotional arcs are surprisingly touching, especially as they both open up about their scars and pasts. The small-town holiday charm of Saratoga Springs and Kol’s protective nature really pulled me in, and I was rooting for these two from start to finish. And speaking of "start to finish"—this book has some seriously hot moments. 5/5 for spice! If you're in the mood for a fun, flirty, and festive romance, Christmas Cancellation is definitely worth picking up. The only thing keeping me from giving this a full 5 stars was a slight predictability in the plot, but it didn’t detract from the overall enjoyment.
Perfect for fans of Christmas romances with a little extra heat!
The main character has a very confusing mind, constantly having mental breakdowns, but even with this problems, she turns out to be a very strong woman. As for Kol, he is a sweetheart and The man every woman would want in their lives. Typically i dont appreciate age gap trope in books, but this one changed my mind, not making age a major problem for the plot that was coming. It is REALLY spicy, so if you don't want spice, I advise you to search for other books. The last decision that Noelle took, as to what she was going to do with her future, really captivated me to know more. I've always wanted to do exactly the same thing she talks about. To sum it up, I wouldn't bother to have a second book that can tell us how it all turns out.
Christmas Cancellation by Evie James is a super-fast passed cute Christmas romance between Noelle, a recently unemployed sassy girl, and Kol, a pilot wine-lover. They both meet after her flight is cancelled and she needs to get to her hometown. Even though this book is insta-love, I believe that all the conversations between the characters had brought them much closer to knowing each other.
One point I do want to mention, which I thought was very well done throughout the book, is the amount of banter and friendly discussions between Noelle and Kol. All their interactions brought humor and character to the story, which sort of works with the slightly stronger or heavier moments of each other's personal stories.
Noelle, whom nothing ever goes right for and has a permanent little black cloud following her around, meets no nonsense Kol who has his own baggage. The banter between them is hilarious from the start and so is the nickname he gives her. When their flight is cancelled, Kol volunteers to drive her to her destination since it's on his way. They get to know each other during the trip and fall into an instant lust/love forced proximity during a blizzard type relationship. This book features some heavy topics which I wasn't expecting for a Christmas book. The language and the spice (think Fifty Shades) wasn't for me, but if you don't mind and/or like spicy you'll love this book.
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
Noelle is heading back to her hometown to find out what her aunt has left her in her will. She's leaving it 'til last minute and in true Christmas story style, bad weather cancels her flights.
Completely distraught, she lets out her frustration on the Captain Kol Vinter. Against his better judgement, he offers to drive Noelle to her destination, it's close to where he is going. What could go wrong?
It has all the tropes as listed in the blurb of the book: Holiday, Forced Proximity, One Bed, Opposites Attract, Return to Small Hometown, Blizzard, Afraid to Commit, Not Who I Thought You Were, Pilot, Horse Girl, Possessive Man, Sassy Girl.
Enjoyable, quick, read.
Fun festive read, the story of Noelle and Kol who meet when her flight is cancelled. he was supposed to be the pilot of that flight, so offers to drive here to where she is going. I liked how it was told from both points of view.
NetGalley book review:
If you need a great, swoon worthy, spicy book to get you in the Christmas mood then this is the book for you!
I loved every minute of reading this book.
Meet Noelle, her name may be festive but Christmas is the last thing on her mind, she’s down on her luck, having lost her job and her ex, and fighting demons from her past.
All she wants to do is get back to her hometown to settle a matter of inheritance and time is running out, enter a snowstorm which ground her flight… and a gorgeous pilot too.
Kol, one of the pilots from Noelle’s flight, cannot stand her or her attitude, but after hearing her state how she wishes she had never been born, offers her a ride to her town.
Hours in a car getting to know each other whilst the snow falls and the sparks fly. Can they make it to Saratoga in time? And will these sparks kindle a fire between the two?
This book has a lovely storyline and two characters with a lot of depth, both have suffered and have their demons to fight and Kols support of Noelle through facing her grief is beautifully written.
This book has a lot of reference to its a wonderful life which I loved.

With main characters having names like Noelle and Kole, how could I not love this book!
Noelle is having a rough life, but one adventurous drive with a gorgeous stranger changes everything. The banter and the spice in this book were absolutely top tier!
Noelle’s life is in shambles after the passing of her late aunt, loss of her job, ex-boyfriend who is an epic jerk, and getting stranded on Christmas Eve Eve. Along comes a broodingly handsome pilot to fill a void that Noelle didn’t even know she was needing in all the right ways. This Christmas story was way more deep and meaningful than I could have ever imagined going into this ARC read, but I totally felt every emotion during my time reading. Grief is a beast to conquer, and everyone grieves in their own way at their own pace but some need that little encouragement to get them through their tough times. I adored Kol and Noelle’s story and journey to happiness, and the only downfall was that I wanted more. I felt like the ending was a bit rushed, but overall it was a great holiday read that I would recommend to all my fellow romance loving fellow readers. #netgalley #arc #forcedproximity #smalltownlove
Super cute holiday read. Noelle is full of sass and Kol has a gruff edge. I love when a book can make me feel all the feels and this book delivered.
This book was adorable and i really enjoyed the christmas feel it had to it. The relationship between our main characters definitely happened very quickly but i feel like the chemistry and connection between both of them makes up for that. Noelle has quite a bit of grief that she is slowly working through and i really liked that Kol helped her as much as he could with it. The banter between our main characters was top tier and i loved it so much. This was a cute spicy book and im excited to see what else this author writes.

Noelle's life is a mess. Her aunt died and she must get to Saratoga from Atlanta before the end of the day. The 2nd leg of her flight from LaGuardia is cancelled due to a massive snowstorm at the destination, and she throws a fit. Up walks Captain Kol who dismisses her tantrum and puts her in her place. As he walks away, he hears her say she wishes she was never born. That tore at his heart. Since he was heading that way, he offers to drive her. As they drive the storm worsens and it gets a bit dicey. She is feisty, he is disciplined and together they help each other in more ways than one. A nice story of overcoming trauma and being strong when the other person needs it. It has spicy scenes but is well written. I enjoyed this book. I received an advance reader copy of this book from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Noelle and Kol had me racing through emotions all over the place throughout this book. Their romance was fast and furious but sprinkled in with humor, grief and trauma.
There were a few parts of the book that were a little unexpected and had me in tears as it hurt to read of the trauma that both characters experienced. It was great to see them both turn it into something great at the end although I felt that it just ended. I was a little confused when I turned the page and there was nothing left to read.
Some of the spicy parts felt a little strange too at times and too much for the way the story was going. They also, in my opinion, didn't really match how the story would go later in the book.
Thanks to Netgalley and the author for this ARC!
Oh. My. God! I fell in love with Noelle and Kol’s story!
Got me into the Christmas Spirit and I loved it!
I rate this a 5 star! If I could go higher I would!
the spice, the laughs, the tears, the love! It shows throughout the book and the story of them both finding one another through the hard times they have had.
Thank you NetGalley for approving my ARC!
Christmas Cancellations was a little more spicy than I thought it would be . I wasn’t expecting a slight fifty shades to it. Cute holiday rom com different holiday read for sure though. I was hooked from the start and did really enjoy the characters and i hope the story continues
Christmas Cancellation by Evie James was a delightful holiday romance that ticked a lot of boxes for me, earning a solid 4 stars.
The festive vibes were spot-on, and I loved the blend of classic holiday tropes like forced proximity and opposites attract. Noelle and Kol's chemistry was undeniable, and their banter kept me hooked from the beginning. The snowy road trip and small-town holiday charm gave the story a cozy, feel-good atmosphere that made it perfect for the season.
That said, there were moments where the pacing felt a bit rushed, especially considering the entire story unfolded in such a short time. While I enjoyed the spicy scenes, a few of them felt slightly out of sync with the emotional tone of the story. I would have liked a little more buildup to their connection to balance the heat with the heart.
Overall, Christmas Cancellation was a quick, fun, and steamy read that left me smiling. If you’re looking for a festive romance with emotional depth and a touch of spice, this one is worth picking up!
Nothing ever goes right for Noelle until she meets no nonsense Kol who has his own baggage. They have really good banter between from the start. They get to know each other during the trip and fall in love . If you like spicy you'll love this book.
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
A fun and spicy Christmas read-my favorite kind! This was fun to start my holiday season off with. I loved the dual point of view of Kol and Noelle. Christmas Cancellation gave me What a Wonderful Life vibes with a spicy twist!
This was my first read from Evie James and I can't wait to read more. Christmas Cancellation was a great Christmas book and I was so glad to have the opportunity to read it!
Thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read Christmas Cancellation by Evie James. The perfect holiday novel with sweetness, tenderness, and hot spicy sex! Perfect!
This was a feel-good festive read, packed with romance and plenty of spice 🔥.
I loved the storyline of the book with the stranded theme occurring, from cancelled flights to being stuck in a snow storm, the story really did have it all. The writing style of the book was so easy to read and I instantly became engrossed with Noelle's life and my heart really went out to her. She was so vulnerable and dealing with a lot of grief, but her strength really increased as the story progressed and her character development was so evident to see.
Kol was just perfect 😍. He seemed a true gentleman who really did bring the spice to the story. I liked the relationship between them and although it could be a little predictable, the ending was just perfect!
The settings of the book were just so idyllic, with the small town feel and the snow storm occurring. Christmas seemed so picturesque and was everything I was hoping for within the book.
This was such a sweet story! I laughed so much, I cried, and I felt with the characters. I love this author so much, and I'm so happy to be part of her team!
Noelle is stranded at the airport, desperately trying to get back to sign paperwork in regards to her aunt's will. She's not going to make it. The flight is canceled. What on earth is she going to do now? But wait...the pilot from her flight is putting her in her place from complaining. Who does he think he is?
Kol is the pilot on the grounded flight, also stuck here, not getting paid, as he eloquently points out to a sassy, complaining Noelle. An offer for a ride through the storm turns into so much more than they could ever hope for.
I loved this one! A sassy Noelle gets stranded on the airport, though she has to get to her aunt’s hometown before the day is over if she wants to receive her inheritance.
After ranting about it to her friend on the phone, she meets Kol, the pilot who puts her in her place. In the end he gives her a ride, which is going to be a bumpy ride.
I loved the way they were with each other and how easily they fell in love. Even though some traumas are happening, they are so amazing together.
Would definitely recommend, if you want a cosy but a bit sad, Christmas read!
Life was NOT on Noelle’s side. She was on her way to Saratoga to finalize paperwork for her aunt’s will — paperwork that needed to be signed 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 day. Naturally, Noelle’s flight got cancelled because of an impending snowstorm. Her life was full of constant bad luck, nothing ever went her way. Her parents passed away four years ago in a bad accident and now her aunt unexpected passed too, leaving Noelle with her estate on one condition — she had to live in Saratoga for a year before she could officially inherit everything.
Running out of options, Noelle was being her usual sassy self when the pilot of the plane happened to overhear her moaning and groaning and graciously offered to drive her to Saratoga because it was “on his way home.” We later found out that he went an hour OUT OF HIS WAY to help her. He was a literal dream.
Kol immediately saw the sass and the massive void in Noelle’s heart. He particularly hated that she said she shouldn’t have been born. His heart broke for her even though he didn’t find out until much later what she even went through. He was Noelle’s biggest cheerleader and was constantly there for her to help her through her grief and pain and in return, Noelle helped Kol through a lot of his struggles after serving in Afghanistan.
"Some things get stuck inside you. You carry them because you have to, because if you let go, your world flies apart."
Christmas Cancellation by Evie James was a little Hallmark Christmas movie, a little It's a Wonderful Life, a little cheesy at times but just the perfect cozy holiday read. I got through this in less than 24-hours and loved how well it was paced. Noelle and Kol had the best banter and the snowed in forced proximity gave me all the feels I love. Evie James did such a wonderful job of weaving together the fun and silliness of these types of insta-love stories with real depth in discussions between the characters about grief and loss. Christmas Cancellation was a wonderful time and the perfect parlay from my spooky season books into my holiday TBR.
Also, Stinkerbelle may just be my new favorite FMC nickname!
This was a pretty enjoyable holiday romance! Noelle is rushing back to her hometown to finalize things after her aunt’s passing, but her plans are derailed when her flight gets canceled due to a snowstorm. Venting her frustration on the phone with her best friend, she’s surprised when Kol, the pilot scheduled for her flight, confronts her.
When Kol realizes they’re headed in the same direction, he offers her a ride, and Noelle grudgingly accepts. The journey is anything but smooth, with treacherous conditions testing their patience. However, once they finally arrive in her hometown, the sparks between them truly begin to fly.
I loved how Noelle and Kol connected and opened up to one another. While the romance felt fast-paced, it added to the charm and kept the story captivating.
If you’re in the mood for a strangers-to-lovers, forced-proximity holiday romance, this book is definitely worth a read!
A spicy romance so good for the holidays. I enjoyed the story of Noelle and Kol! I also liked that there wasn’t too much spice but just enough! ✨

cute and hilarious book, perfect to curl up in front of the fire with a cuppa hot chocolate. I had a bit of trouble getting into the plot, but it got better up ahead
I absolutely love this story, it has everything you need, and boy does it ever put you through the wringer. There’s spice, humour, grumpy/sunshine, with a bit of insta love, as well as emotion and heartache. Truly a bit of everything.
Both Noelle and Kol have their own baggage going back and forth with misconceptions of each other at the beginning. There is a lovely forced proximity trope that brings them together to start unpacking said baggage.
I will say Noelle’s personal struggle with jumping to conclusions of Kol leaving her constantly was a bit much. I had a hard time with that. I understand mentioning it a few times for the story line, but it became too much. Other than that which I was able to get through, the story itself was great. A good spicy holiday read with lots of heart… and heat.
This was such an unexpected holiday rom-com that I just absolutely adored. It was cheesy in the absolute best way and had so many laugh out loud moments, as well as moments where it absolutely tugged on my heartstrings. The magic in this book was truly incredible and I already know that this will be one that I reread.
