Born in Charleston and raised on Johns Island, Michel Stone is part of the 11th generation of her family to hail from the South Carolina Lowcountry. She is the author of the novels Fig Days, forthcoming from Regal House Publishing on April 6, 2027, Border Child (Doubleday), and The Iguana Tree (Hub City Press). She is the winner of the Mary Frances Hobson Prize for Distinguished Achievement in Arts and Letters, the Patricia Winn Award for Southern Literature, and the South Carolina Fiction Award. Michel’s novels have been widely and favorably reviewed from The San Francisco Chronicle to The New Yorker. She holds a BA in English from Clemson University and an M.Ed. from Converse College. Michel is a Fellow of the Aspen Global Leadership Network, a Liberty Fellow, and a Ucross Fellow. She spends as much time as possible in her beloved Lowcountry with her family and Boykin Spaniel.
