Description
Things haven’t been easy for Eiley but she’s finally stepping into the light. With a new flat above the local bookshop, Thorn & Thistle, and a job that lets her indulge her bookworm fantasies, Eiley is on the path to rediscovering who she is – until her village of Belbarrow gets an annoyingly self-important new fireman called Warren, who it seems is always there to throw cold water on her plans.
Warren, with his hot looks and cool lines, is the last thing Eiley wants. Cocky, flirty and superior, she’s not about to be another notch on his belt. But when chaos sweeps through Eiley’s life, forcing her and Warren to team up to save the shop, sparks fly in ways she never expected.
As autumn leaves swirl and the village gears up for their annual fireworks display, Eiley must navigate the smoking chemistry between them while facing the ghosts of her past. She knows that sometimes love hurts – but other times, it burns…
This heartwarming autumnal romance explores the fiery connection between a determined single mum and a self-assured fireman.

there must be something about the Scottish Highlands. because i think the ratio of my fave and lovely books have been based there. one of my favourite authors even has an actual Highlands names series. so when i saw this one was set there i was already thinking oh yum yes please.
in this book we meet Eiley. a single mum just trying to keep all the plates spinning. shes been hurt and still sometimes feels hurt. and her pains go deeper than the ex. the low moods are hard for her. it makes trust, self worth and being brave even harder sometimes. so she just focus's all her mental capacity on being independent and taking care of her kids. she needs to show the world she can do this. so when she moves into the flaat above a bookstore it feels like things could be settling in. but then there blazes the new firefighter. hes rubbing her up in all the wrong ways. probably because of how he actually makes her feel. she DOESN'T want to feel this. she doesn't think she dare. so she does all she can to make that not happen. which shouldn't be hard right? this cocky bloke who seems so sure of himself. hmmm this made not be easy when events take the choice out of her hands.
you cant fight chemistry can you?
Warren is back in town after years away. hes had his hurdles and still does. on meeting Eiley he feels the sparks and then some. but this woman is stubborn and just keeps giving him differing push, pull moments.
i could really see how Eiley and her faith in others but mostly herself had broken down. i dont think many people unless you've hit that bottom can know what it takes to turn to anyone even yourself once you get that low. her regaining trust in herself was key, her finding it in someone else was hard to read because you wanted to make her have courage but also knew why she couldn't.
The Nd representation felt authentic and not just a tick box exercise. its not glossed over but either is it shoving it in the readers face as if this makes the whole person.
this book had those wonderful small town community feels.
we've got some real emotional healing to be done here and this was refreshing in how it showed that because it was quick.it wasn't easy. and you relapse so often sometimes before you read the sun.
a great book and a great time had with this book. id happily read more by Bonnie.
This book totally drew me in from the start! Eiley’s journey of rediscovering herself in a cozy village is so relatable, and the chemistry between her and Warren had me smiling the whole time. Their banter was hilarious, and the small-town, bookshop vibes made it super cozy. Perfect if you want a fun, flirty romance with heart!

This was such a lovely and romantic story of a single mom and an annoying cocky fireman that’s determined to put a link in her plans. It was cute, romantic, and spicy and I loved the chemistry between them. It had just the right amount of spice and is the perfect romance read to escape into this fall!
