This bright and colorfully illustrated story by Jane Smith captures all the excitement and nervous energy little ones feel before the first day of school. In It’s the First Day of First Grade, Chloe Zoe!, Chloe Zoe is thrilled to be in the same class as her best friend Mary Margaret, but her joy quickly turns to worry when a sparkly new classmate, Lulu the unicorn, seems to capture Mary Margaret’s full attention. Suddenly, Chloe Zoe isn't so sure there's still room for her, and readers get a gentle, relatable look at what it feels like when friendships shift and change. Alongside its emotional connection, the story includes fun and subtle learning moments with music, math, counting, and colors woven into the classroom experience. Jane Smith has created a warm, engaging tale that’s perfect for helping young elementary schoolers navigate big feelings and build excitement for the school year ahead.

It’s the First Day of First Grade, Chloe Zoe is about Chloe Zoe as she prepares for and stars 1st grade. We go through her first day with her as she has fun and overcomes some worries. This would be a great book for a rising 1st grader.

Thanks to IBPA, Jane Smith, and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and Jane Smith for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This book will be released to retailers on Tuesday, July, 15, 2025.

A perfect book for parents to buy upcoming first graders, or for a first grade teacher to read on the first day of school. This book has colorful illustrations, and easy to read words for beginning readers. Teachers can use this as a read aloud to guide instruction about procedures. A great read!

This book looked so cute when I first saw it! Therefore, I wanted to read it for the art! I loved the illustrations in it. They were very pretty and I loved the color combos. The color combos will definately stick out to kids! I loved the way the animals were drawn as well. I literally found myself going "Aww"  the whole time while reading this book.

I think this story is very relatable to children and what they go through in school. I think it will be perfect for kids who are reading at a 1st grade or 2nd grade level.

I think parents will love this book because it can be very relatable. For example, it talks about kids making lunches with their parents. Which some parents and kids may relate to.

It also has themes that relate to interactions with people. For example, one character in the book who is a teacher talks about "Kindness, Compassion, and Respect". It also opens the topic of jelously and how kids may feel that when they are left out from activities with their friends. It talks about making new friends as well.

I liked that this book talked about a lot of topics that may be important to parents and their kids. I also really enjoyed the art and how pretty it was! I think parents that are looking for kids books that address school and friendship that this would be a great book to buy!

Yes, l'm a couple of decades older than Chloe Zoe and yes, I found her very relatable nonetheless!

A sweet book with colorful illustrations about the challenges of evolving friendships, “It's the First Day of First Grade, Chloe Zoe!” is an engaging story that I'm sure will help little ones navigate similar situations.

Friendships evolve and it's okay! Just because Mary Margaret is now friends with Lulu doesn't mean that she's no longer friends with Chloe Zoe and George too. The more the merrier!

A very bright and colorful read with a storyline that handles a common feeling that comes up in young kids. I definitely recommend this book for kids going into the first grade or those who may be struggling with the feeling of jealous. I will be purchasing the kindergarten story from this series for my daughter who will be going into kindergarten!

First, this is an adorable story. Second, the artwork is refreshing! I love the use of patterned "wallpaper" type feeling on the characters. My kinder-aged nephew loved this one.

Is it weird that I want to own this book for myself? lol I absolutely loved the bright colorful illustrations in this book. And I love unicorns and elephants, which just so happen to be 2 of the characters in this book. This book was a cute story about the first grade and meeting new people. It reminded me of when I was in elementary school and the jealousy I had when my best friend made other friends. Sometimes, letting new people into your circle of friends is hard. I like that this book shows that it can be a great thing to add people into your friend circles. Loved this book. Thank you to Jane Smith, Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Members' Titles, and NetGalley for the ARC!

This book was such a cute find for my cousin who is starting First Grade. It walks through the (very real) worries kiddos have on the first day of school. The book introduces activities that First grade does include, larger vocabulary words which I enjoyed, and teaching kids that friends come to you in different ways at different times. Overall, it is most important to be kind.

Aww, I read this to my twins who will be starting school next year. We talked about some of the major themes of the book, including how sometimes they will be separated from each other and will have to branch out and make their own friends. My kids loved the numerous characters, bright color, and ease of reading.

This was a very cute book. It had great lessons about jealousy and how to work through them. This would be great for any new first grader scared about starting school. The illustration style is very cute as well.
