I really really loved and enjoyed this book and this series. Really a great and deep emotional book that just has you hooked from beginning to end.

Cassia Leo's books captivate me, they intrigue me and they make me fall in love with them. I read the Shattered Hearts Series and I loved it so much that I didn't think I could possibly love any other of her books as much as I loved that series. But I was wrong because when I read The Way We Fall, I just fell in love all over again but with different characters and of course, a different story line :)

Houston and Rory had this pull on me that I was unable to stop reading. I just kept reading and reading and reading until I devoured the book and then it left me wanting more. I love reading stories about kids who develop a love for each other at a very young age and it escalates as they get older and this is exactly that type of story. There is so much that goes on in this book that it keeps you interested and focused solely on the book and you don't want to put it down. You just want to keep reading to find out what big secret Houston is hiding that is eating him.

All I can tell you is that this book is going on my top ten for this year so far. I will not divulge what goes on in the book because you'll need to read it for yourself in order to find out what exactly happens. But I can guarantee you that you will not be disappointed, as a matter of fact, you're going to be left wanting to keep reading and you're just going to have to wait for the 2nd book to come out :)

Total 5 star read for me. It left me in a complete state of longing for more Houston and Rory

Oh my goodness! A sexy thriller with a very intense plot. Loved this book from first to last page. Cant wait for the second book!

I really enjoyed this book. The pain of losing your first love is bad enough but in this case the secrets Houston had to keep was beyond what anyone should endure. The pace and the writing is extremely well done, I truly felt the pain both characters felt. Once we understood why Houston made the choices je did I has the reader felt for him. I enjoyed the multiple POVs along with going back to see how it all began for Rory and Houston. I will definitely be picking up the next 2 books in the series.

I really enjoyed this book. One of the best romance Novels I have read in quiet along time. It will keep you gripped all the way through. Not one of your typical romance novels that ends with everything happy ever after. This book is intense, you will find that you will be happy and then you will be angry..

Houston and Rory used to be an item but a tragedy of Houston's sister Hallie committing suicide pulled them apart. 5 years later because of an opening up of a new wine bar Houston an Rory meet and they get drawn together. Old feelings come back but the only difference is in their separation Houston got married. But he wants Rory back. Houston at times come across a bit of a tool. There is also a secret that Houston has been keeping from Rory.

This book will keep you hooked right up to the end.

This is one of Cassia's most intriguing books yet. I just don't know which way the story is going to go..

what an amazing story. Rory has been hanging on to true love for 5 years and hasnt been able to find closure. This is not just a "love" story, these are real life challenges and decisions that are made. I cant believe how this book ends.. I am hoping there will be several books to this series including Hallie. Pick this book up you wont regret it, totally worth your time.

THE WAY WE FALL (THE STORY OF US 1) by CASSIA LEO

I have been a fan of Ms. Cassia Leo since I have read RELENTLESS and I honestly think she is one amazing storytellers out there. Her books are beyond emotional. It just rocks you down to your core and stays with you forever. Her stories are deep and raw and unexpected in a sense that she writes stories that are insanely heartbreakingly good. That her readers will probably know what to expect after reading her SHATTERED HEARTS series. But then, she gives you serials that are erotic and different from the first book you've read from her so yeah... totally unexpected & unpredictable. I guess what I am trying you say is you kinda know what to expect and what not to expect when you read a Cassia Leo book. And I meant that as a compliment. You take what she gives you but you also cherish and savor every chapter of her book and every emotion that's in it. Whether you love or hate it, her books are a MUST read. I swear.

In this new series that Ms. Leo generously is sharing to the world, she nailed it (AGAIN!). I think this series is worth reading and it sure will want you to read more. Like I said, after reading most of her books I learned to just take everything and not expect... but expect. Do you get what I mean? Do I make sense? Probably not but I hope you get the gist. Of course, I expected this book to be good and it is. I meant, I will not be shocked if ever things and situations in the story is not smooth-sailing and if things will shock the hell out of me. That's one of the things I love about her writing and how she plots a story. She gives that shock value the value it deserves and it always is amazing and jaw-droppingly good. The way she introduced Rory & Houston's story will pique your interest and will want you to get to know em more. There are questions that needed answers and I hope some of those questions will be answered in book 2. And I have to admit that the characters in this story are complicated and broken which is a bit hard for me to read especially Tessa's character. I hate to seeing a person that's in a similar situation like her. It hurts and it's sad and reading it is hard for me. But characters like Tessa's is enlightening because it helps me to understand people like her or if not understand, maybe be compassionate to em and what they are going through. So basically, Cassia Leo's books and this story has that real-feel to it and it makes you think and question things, which I dig. Totally.

This is book 1 and yes, it's like the introduction to what the whole story is about and also to the characters that's part of the story. I honestly don't know what to expect for book 2. I just know that it will also be amazing and maybe shocking (in a way) and memorable. Her books are just like that. The story will stay with you even if you forget the names of the characters you will remember the story. That's how good she is. And yes, if you are a fan then you have to read this and if you haven't read any of her books... (WHY?!) WTH are you waiting for? Read this and then read SHATTERED HEARTS series and the rest of her books. I bet my freakin ass you will not be disappointed.

I would like to thank Gloss Publishing LLC and NetGalley for providing me with an electronic copy to review. After not having seen Houston Cavanaugh since they broke up five years before, Aurora Charles - Rory - meets him by chance when he comes to her place of employment to pitch a contract. Houston, a craft beer producer, needs the contract to provide beer for Zucker's Market new Coffee and Wine Bar, but he is reluctant to reinsert himself back into Rory's life. Things get complicated and both Rory and Houston are reminded why they loved and lost each other in the first place. The Way We Fall is a dark romance, with conflict and complications as the major themes throughout the book. With only a snapshot into the past history of Houston and Rory, the author did not provide enough information to allow me to feel any meaningful connection between either character. Although the ending was a cliffhanger, it did provide the most realistic moment in the book. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy second chance or dark romance books.

I have read a few other titles by Cassia Leo and found them enjoyable, but they fall more into the romantic fun/fluff categories. I think this book is exceptional in its category of contemporary romance. I honestly didn't want to put it down. Usually the major spoiler for the story is pretty transparent. I may have missed clues along the way, but I totally didn't see the hidden "secret" coming before it was revealed. My mind led me in a totally different direction... I was not disappointed when it was revealed.

It is a second chance romance and a story about friendship and loss... The heroine has never been able to move on from her first love, and the way she approaches life in general indicates she's spinning wheels. She needs closure from both the friendship (loss) and romantic relationship ending to be able to take that next step in life. The fact that she's only really committed to her dog in five years and has *maybe* one other friend is another big indicator. The hero is a hot mess, but it doesn't make him less lovable. He's been anesthetizing with alcohol and checked out of life even before he married his deeply troubled wife.

The characters are well fleshed out, you actually care about them and can understand the frustration they feel with themselves and each other. The story ends on a cliffhanger so it will be interesting to see where the story goes from here. I can't wait to read book #2 and that speaks for itself.

Rory has been broken up with her first love for five years. She's graduated from college, works in a retail job, has an apartment, owns a beautiful dog, and she's writing a book. It isn't just any book though, it's the book of her life when she had Houston, her best friend's older brother. Except Houston is suddenly there in person, he's at her job, he's at her apartment door, and he's finding ways to wiggle into her heart. Houston has moved on, he's married, owns a successful business, and is holding onto a truth he's finding he needs to share. Houston has to choose between the life he's built up or the life he let go. Rory and Houston can't ignore what is happening, they have to face it, but there is a chance they won't be able to make it through it together. The past could be too much, a mountain between their great love.

This is the second chance story that couples yearn for when they know they've made a mistake breaking up. It's the opportunity to try again, to put the past behind you and accept the love that is there, but we all know it doesn't always work that way. I was drawn to Rory and Houston right away; they're raw, realistic, and they're so similar to my boyfriend and I that I laughed out loud at some of the moments I shouldn't have, because I've heard the words out loud before. Rory is a tortured soul, it's like she never dealt with the sadness of her past, not about Houston and certainly not about Hallie, Houston's little sister. I appreciated that Rory was so realistic, so in love with Houston that his presence in her life causes a chain reaction. I particularly loved the way that Cassia Leo wound the twist in the story so eloquently that I never once saw it coming. The characters are incredibly well-written, with detailed descriptions, pasts, and emotions that play off one another. The secondary characters bring history to the relationship, allowing us to see into the relationship from an outside perspective. They also have the funniest comments, the most useful advice, and the best shoulders to lean on when Houston and Rory need it. The witty dialogue reads like you're watching an improvised play rather than a book. It's just too good; The Way We Fall sucks you in, toys with your emotions, and then ends with a cliffhanger you just won't see coming.

I admit, I am too in love with this book to give much effort to write about some of parts I didn't like. It is a bit hard to keep up with where in the past and present the characters are in, not only are the POV's changing, but the date does too. I had to go back and forth between chapters while I got used to it, but the transitions get more comfortable as it goes. I will admit that this is a book that has cheating, suicide, and a love affair that pushed some serious boundaries. This is not normally something I would like about a book, but the way Cassia Leo approaches it is done very well. While I didn't rate down for it, I think it's worth noting for others considering reading the series that might have serious problems with it. There is some serious insta-love, Rory is immature with relationships, but as you read she matures and I can confirm that as you continue reading the series the character growth is massive for every character, even the most minor.

If you have ever wondered what a New Adult novel is, I want you to read this book. It has all the parts I love about a young adult novel, a coming of age novel, and an adult romance rolled in one. There's talk of college, becoming a grown up, insufferable parents, curse words, immature moments, and tastefully sexy sex scenes. Cassia Leo has blown my mind with The Way We Fall and the relationship of Rory and Houston is one I'd love to see in the big screen.

"I fell in love with a boy thirteen years ago and he, along with my best friend, proceeded to smash my heart into a billion pieces".

The girl who fell in love with the boy is the loyal, trusting, and compassionate Rory. The boy she fell in love with is the strong, protective Houston, who happened to be the older brother of Rory's best friend Hallie.. Although some might consider this to be a love story about Rory and Houston, it ends up also being Hallie's story. This book was dark, deep, and yet romantic. It "hits you right in the feels" as they say and leaves an impression deep in the recesses of a reader's brain. Fans of John Green and Jessica Sorensen may very well note a similar reaction out of their story as there is not any feel-good fluff to pacify the grueling nature of true love. It is an intense story full of secrets that take their sweet time to be revealed

"Maybe Houston was right. Maybe we will always make it back together. Then we'll never stop hurting each other".

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, despite being rather impatient with the timeliness of the revealed secrets. I loved how raw this book was with emotions and commend the author for digging deep into the true angst of secrets and romance. It was action-packed with well-developed characters that every reader hopes for and delivers gut-wrenching scenarios for every bleeding heart. I would say that this book was hard to put down but, in fact, there were quite a few scenes that I had to stop in order to even breathe. Just when I thought that I knew what the next secret was going to be, I was proven wrong.

A few words of caution: this book has a cliffhanger, profanity, sexual situations, and covers sensitive topics such as self-harm, abortion, and even suicide.

i spent most of this book confused as to what time / whose was the pov. i have read other cassia books that were so much better. i dont know what happened at the end it didn't seem to have an ending . in summary this isn't an awful book but i wouldn't have finished if i had purchased myself.

I really don't know what to think with this book. To be honest, I really didn't like it at first and almost marked it as a DNF because I felt lost, but things became clearer as the story moved along. The Way We Fall is well written, but I have to confess that I struggled with connecting to the characters. I felt for Rory, but at the same time wanted to slap her. I couldn't connect with Houston at all - and it's not his fault, even though he's fictional I just couldn't make myself understand his actions. This is part one of a trilogy and thankfully, the ending is such that you feel some closure. I know that the story isn't done, but it's complete enough that I don't feel the need to seek out Book #2. I think this may be a case of a decent book that I just didn't click with.

The Way We Fall is a story of betrayal, lies and ultimate love.

Rory and Houston have known each other since they were kids due to Rory being best friends with Houston's sister Hallie (and has secretly loved him since she was eleven). While in college a tragic event that affects both Rory and Houston finally bring them together. However, Houston has a big secret in the form of a letter which holds information that would destroy Rory and thinking he is protecting a secret confided in him, he walks away from Rory. Destroying both of them in the process. Now 5 years later they are thrown together again – this time the cause is their jobs. But Houston still holds onto that secret and his love for Rory - what will he do now?

The story in itself flowed well and took off about midway. I have to admit I love a book with unexpected twists.

I received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 Stars for this story which I'm sure will have me slowly bleeding...

Rory has been in love with Houston for years and for a brief intense time he was hers. Houston, though attracted to Rory was apparently going after her for the wrong reasons but fell hard. This is their story. Leo always does such an amazing job of reeling you in, breaking you with angst, and then leaving you with a wth is gonna happen next. Be warned, if you have any issues with cheating, this book is not the read for you. If you can trust in the beauty of the author's writing to help you navigate through some complicated tangled emotions, this book will be perfect for you.

Told in alternating, as well as past/present POV, we get some background as to what was the foundation and the destruction of Houston and Rory. Rory, was a heroine I can get behind. She does bother me at times and I really wish she was stronger and took better care of her heart, but sometimes we want something even if its not really good for us.

Houston, well the jury is still out on him, but let me tell you, Leo better craft something amazing, because as of right now, if it was up to me he would be sitting on death row. Not literally people, you just need to follow my jury/court thought process I had going on. I really think I need to get more background on Houston because I don't have any warm fuzzies toward him, he really is jerk at times and I don't see what Rory sees in him. He has some redeeming moments but they are short lived and just not enough for me to get behind him.

I love Kenny, Rory's friend and I really like Liam too. My concern is that the next book may have me horribly conflicted and eventually I am sure I will be on the Rory/Houston bandwagon, but not now. Luckily for me, I am reading this book with the two final books already available for download. I think I would have gone nuts waiting for the next book to come out. Not that there is an overwhelmingly strong cliffhanger, but there is just so many unanswered questions that you just have to get right on to the next book, which is what I'm gonna do right now.

Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I found this to be a really interesting, well written story. It drew me in from the start and held me until the end. The characters are intense and have strong chemistry. I can't wait to read more about Rory and Houston's journey toward happiness.

Houston and Rory find themselves in a difficult situation. There's the love of your past that you have an opportunity to revisit and the reality of your present, which you have an obligation to honor. It's difficult to say which way these two will go or which is the best path to take

Guest Reviewer Joanna's Thoughts:

Strap in, sisters, I'm in a real mood after reading this book. I begrudge every one of the five stars I am awarding "The Way We Fall" by Cassia Leo because in my heart, I gave it one star, and wished it could have been zero. Why? Because I don't like romance novels. I've learned this about myself. I've always been able to appreciate great writing in ANY genre, but I was so annoyed with every cheap character, every over-scripted argument, every predictable story arc, every gratuitous sex scene… that I began to realize that most likely, I hated it all BECAUSE it was a romance novel, and not because it was horribly written.

Don't get me wrong. I'm quite sure it was horribly written. But since I cannot be impartial on that subject anymore, I would never punish a book, or an author, or readers, with my close-mindedness. "I read this book about cats. Well I hate cats, so I gave it one star." You know? I won't be that reviewer. So let's assume that all the reasons I might have hated this book might be all the reasons that a true fan of the romance genre would love this book, and we'll go from there.

Rory is a 24-year-old girl who’s a born-again virgin, more or less, since the one man she's been with is the one man she's loved since childhood and the one man who dumped her horribly and she's never moved on. Or, in romance terms, he was the one throbbing erection in her pulsating womanhood… or something. Houston is her ex-boyfriend, who magically appears in her life again, and seems to be named just so the author can crack two—two!!—Houston jokes. ("Houston, we have lift-off. Houston, we have a problem.")

The book toggles between present day tension and flashback… tension. These two are always tense. Even during the flashbacks while madly in love, they fight, scream at each other, are as crass as possible, and seem to rut only to bury their anger. Wait, I'm sorry… they make beautiful passionate love because that's what romance characters do after fights where they both behave utterly out of character. But this is just me. There are slowly revealed secrets about why they are both in so much pain, regarding Rory's roommate's suicide, and since the roommate was also Houston's sister, we can see why the two characters turned to each other.

But. BUT. Oh, there's so much more. WHY did this Hallie character commit suicide? If only she left a note… (SKIP TO NEXT PARAGRAPH IF YOU DON'T WANT THE MINOR SPOILER) If only she left a note that WEREN'T WRITTEN LIKE ANOTHER ROMANCE CHAPTER. Omg, people, when the SUICIDE NOTE talks about glistening sweat on her ex-lover's back, you know you're reading an author who can't write to save her life, no pun intended. However, the flip side of this is, maybe within the romance genre, this type of thing is just brilliant. Really, I no longer have any idea.

So, other things… Rory's mom is a nightmare, and if you want to write about a mom-character who's a nightmare, knock yourself out. I'm a fan of "Arrested Development" too. But when you are actually trying to paint Rory's mom as a supportive everymom, then… why all the ridiculous inappropriate dialogue? Oh, I know, because the author can't write. And why is the one woman who caused an accident Asian? Maybe the bad guy should be the one black character in the book. Maybe there should also be the token gay party-boy bff… oh wait, he's in the book too. Oh geez. Nothing is original. Not even all the many, many, many pop-culture references, when the characters have inside jokes about this movie and that movie and this movie and that movie and… Cassia Leo is really showing her hand, here, deriving inspiration from every movie from "Lion King" to "Seven" and utterly lacking the finesse to work it in organically, relying instead on stilted references. I cringed, every page. I cringe, now. But (if you're still with me, sisters… Are you still with me? Hello…? Oh hi!) maybe you won't cringe. Because maybe you like romance books, and all this stuff is just part and parcel of watching the girl get the guy, and that scratches an itch we all have, and you're nicer and sweeter and less judgmental than me and maybe you'll like this book just fine.

It would figure I'm on paragraph seven before I say anything nice. So the author finds her stride when she writes the chapters from Houston's point of view. She seems more comfortable with that masculine energy. She also had a snippet of really excellent dialogue (she had several, total, but I can count them on one hand) where Houston and his bestie Troy crack I-screwed-your-mom-last-night jokes and the exchange is totally REAL and legitimately FUNNY and crackles with life. If Cassia Leo is actually capable of writing that exchange, then I will hold her best writing against her. She's capable of doing better than the schlock she's churned out, and she doesn't respect her readers, clearly, since she thinks we're just along for the ride even though it took her as long to write it as it'll take you to read it. But maybe romance readers ARE just along for the ride—we all know the plots are predictable, yes?—so maybe that's not a valid criticism within this genre.

There is clearly no editor – "Gloss Publishing" or whatever is most likely just Cassia Leo hiding behind a li'l LLC she made so she doesn't look all self-published like the rest of us… But those stripes show when she's guilty of every fiction trap that any editor worth her salt would tear apart totally. I'd give you examples of that, but someone might begin to feel that I'm being too negative…? (lol, j/k y'all!) So "Gloss Publishing" sent me a free e-copy of this book in exchange for my honest review, which she is sure as hell getting…

So read it, just read it please. I read it, and actually finished it, which is more than I can say for half the books I start. That alone should be worth some stars if I can get over my bias. Apparently it's part of a three-part series so you can watch that relationship arc rise and fall three times in a row! Since that might be your thing as a romance reader! It's NOT my thing, as I've made abundantly clear, and I hope you don't all hate me now. But if this writing is enough to piss you off, then so will Cassia Leo's writing, because I already brought more to the table in this review than she did between her glossy covers.

I am a big fan of Cassia Leo. I have read several of her other books and they always get me completely hooked. This one was no different.

Houston and Rory met thru Houston's sister. She was Rory's best friend. Rory always had a crush on Houston but knew he never even saw her. Then when tragedy strikes Houston and Rory find themselves pushed together and in a relationship over night. While they are both dealing with their grief they find their life can continue because of the love they share. Then after an unexpected surprise Houston leaves Rory and they must learn how to make it on their own.

Now several years later the last thing Rory ever expected to see while waiting to meet with a vendor was Houston walking thru the door. Seeing each other again brings all the feelings for each other back to the forefront. Neither can deny the love they still feel for the other. However it is never simple. Houston is now married and Rory is trying to move on. But is that possible when the only love you have ever had is trying to get back into your life. Then there is the fact that Houston has a huge secret he has been keeping from Rory that he knows their love will never make it if he doesn' t tell her. The only risk is that this secret could also destroy her.

Wow, oh wow! I was sucked into this book from the very beginning. Do not start it unless you can dedicate some serious reading time because you will not want to put it down. I cannot wait to read the other two books in this series to see what happens. I don't know how this series slipped past me but I am so glad I stumbled upon it.

“The Way We Fall” is the first installment in Cassia Leo’s 3-book series (The Story of Us). This first book introduces us to Rory and Houston, who are suddenly thrust back into each other’s lives five years after their messy breakup.

For years, Rory harbored a “not-so-secret” crush on her best friend’s older brother, Houston. As time passes and Rory matures, Houston starts to see her in a new light. Suddenly, he finds himself attracted to Rory and struggles to keep a safe distance. But when tragedy strikes, Rory and Houston find solace in each other’s arms. A “friends-turned-lovers” relationship begins, but a dark secret harbored by Houston looms in the background.

It was secrets and guilt that proved to be the demise of the couple’s tumultuous relationship. But years apart has done little to squelch the love that Rory and Houston feel for one another. Yet despite his desire to reunite with Rory, the past continues to torment Houston. The truth--wrapped up in a letter that’s been kept secret from Rory for years—will, once again, threaten to tear the couple apart.

While the story itself is compelling, I had a very hard time connecting with both Rory and Houston. I found their characters to be frustrating, annoying, and (at times) unlikeable. I thought Rory, in particular, acted quite immature at times, making me want to throttle her.

Despite the negatives, I found myself drawn into the story, anxious to discover the “truth.” I wanted to know the secret that Houston had kept hidden from Rory for all these years. And when the truth was finally revealed, I was left with a cliffhanger ending that I couldn’t ignore. I had no other choice but to pick up the next book in the series, determined to see the story through.

Although I didn’t exactly love “The Way We Fall,” I was still captivated enough to want to read the next two books in the series. On its own, I would rate this book a 3, but as a whole, I would rate the series a 4. With each book I read, I grew to like both Rory & Houston more and more. But more importantly, I wanted them to find their HEA. And I wasn’t going to stop reading until they did.

Cassia Leo has proven again and again that she's an author to pay attention to. I was excited to get the chance to read this title, as I'd heard such wonderful things about it -- the hype was well worth it.

Cassia Leo is one of the authors who got me to fall in love with NA a few years ago and reading The Way We Fall was a reminder of why I did in the first place. Reading this reminded me of Cassia's other series and how much NA has changed since then and how much I missed the way it was back then. I don't know what it was about them so I can't tell you that. Cassia never lost that touch and brought it over to this book/series that made me feel the way I felt when I first read her other series and that nostalgia that this book brought just made me feel like coming home.

I'll be perfectly honest. Since I joined NetGalley in 2011, I have been terrible with keeping up my feedback ratio and when I first joined, I went a little request crazy. I requested way too many books for me to keep up with. That was a rookie mistake that I've learned not to make again. This past year, I've been trying to get to some of these books and, though I haven't done as well as I have planned, I intend on making 2016 the year of NetGalley. I plan on reading as many requested books as I possibly can in the coming year with full intentions of finally getting my ratio to a good percentage (seriously, it's bad).

That being said, The Way We Fall is one of the books I requested a while back and ended up never getting to. Until now, that is. And let me just say that I fully regret never taking the time out of my reading schedule to give this one it's time in the spotlight. This story is absolutely amazing.

For the NetGalley reading challenge I joined this year, my goal was to read a certain number of books. Not a large amount, but enough to force me into reading some that were on the list. It's late November now and I was two books short of meeting my goal so I took a look through my list and decided to pick up The Way We Fall. From the the moment I began reading, I was glued to the story and wanted nothing more than to continue on with it. Every moment that I wasn't reading it, I wanted to be. There was so much heartbreak and yet so much love in this story that it drew me in completely and continually left me needing to find out the answers to Rory and Houston's past.

I honestly could not get enough of this book. It was such an emotional rollercoaster but one that was amazing to be on. The story between these two was absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking that it was impossible not to root for them. The name of the series is very well fitting to the characters and their story and I honestly cannot wait to get a chance to continue on with it.

Such a gorgeous story. If you like a good romance with a side of emotion, I highly recommend The Way We Fall.

Rating: 5 Stars.

Intense and heart breaking. The story was written so well that it felt as if I was the one that had experienced everything the characters where going thru.
