an interesting look at culture, geography and child's mindset. this book ask were the two kids were from. Their combined descriptions of the world make every place they are from magical, including where they are now. a good resource for class room introduction and involvement in the classroom as a whole.

Today’s book of the day was “Where Are You From?” by W.T. Farris. Never missing an opportunity to fit in a book, I turned the lobby of MJ’s speech therapy office into story time. 3 other kids waiting on their appointment enjoyed this story as I read aloud 🤓 I loved the representation of West Africa, Asia, Australia, and the US.
I thought the message overall was really positive and the illustrations were reminiscent of early 2000s cartoons, which I love! However, I was completely taken out towards the end by the "come and take it" reference. I understand what they were going for, but it just seems so weird for a kid's book to highlight gun rights out of nowhere (even if it's not fully explained.)
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with a free eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a lively little picture book that explores different areas of the world and the idea of home. The illustrations are wonderful and this would be a fun book to use as a launching pad to learn about different areas of the world.
An endearing and important picture book, WT Farris' Hey, Where Are You From? tackles the often-frustrating question of belonging in a heartfelt way. The story, following a young character named Max as they explore the meaning of "home," is a powerful lesson in empathy and diversity. The vibrant illustrations from Marcin Poludniak wonderfully capture the adventure and emotional journey. However, the story sometimes feels a bit overly simplistic in its resolution of a complex topic. Still, it's a solid and much-needed read for opening up conversations about identity with children.

Hey, Where Are You From?" by W.T. Farris is a true gem and an absolute must-read for all families, especially those who have ever moved around. This book beautifully captures the unique experience of a child who moves frequently, answering a question that many kids hear all the time. Instead of feeling like an outsider, the main character's journey celebrates all the different places they've lived and the memories they've made along the way.
The illustrations are warm and inviting, perfectly complementing the heartfelt narrative. They bring the story to life in a way that is both relatable and comforting. This book doesn't just tell a story; it offers a sense of validation and belonging to children who are constantly adapting to new homes and schools. It's a powerful reminder that their "home" isn't just one place on a map but is found in the love of their family and the rich tapestry of their experiences.
As a parent, I am so grateful for this book. It provides a wonderful starting point for conversations about identity, belonging, and the strength it takes to navigate new environments. "Hey, Where Are You From?" is more than just a book; it's a tool for building confidence and a beautiful tribute to the resilience of families everywhere. With this insightful and charming debut, W.T. Farris has a bright future ahead in children's literature. This is a five-star read that deserves a place on every family's bookshelf.
