Description
When a woman disappears, a homeless man is the only person who can find her.
On a cold Manchester night, Victor Mitchum and his loyal-ish dog witness something they were never meant to see. Living on the streets has made Victor good at watching people—which is exactly why private investigator Kasper Dąbrowski recruits him to help find a missing woman.
But as Victor watches from the shadows, he realises he has stumbled into something far more dangerous. Working alongside Kasper and his sister, Victor discovers he’s not just tracking kidnappers—he’s watching killers. And now they know someone is watching them.
With time running out for their victims, Victor must rally his unlikely allies—the forgotten people of Manchester’s streets—in a desperate fight for survival. But in a city where the powerful prey on the vulnerable, can a man society has chosen to ignore become the hero these families need?
A Note From the Publisher
D. E. Beckler writes fast-paced action thrillers populated with well-rounded characters. Born in Addis Ababa in 1960, Beckler spent his first eight years living on an agricultural college in rural Ethiopia where his love of reading developed. After dropping out of university he became a firefighter and served nineteen years before leaving to start his own business.
Beckler began writing in 2010 and uses his work experiences to add realism to his fiction. Beckler lives in Manchester, his adopted home since 1984. In his spare time, he tries to keep fit—an increasingly difficult undertaking—listens to music, socialises and feeds his voracious book habit.
Advance Praise
‘A dark and gritty read set in the homeless community with a real sense of authenticity and a sure touch. The setting is superbly drawn, the characters real and complex…A cracking read.’ —Trevor Wood, author of the Jimmy Mullen and DCI Jack Parker series
‘Tense and gripping, with a likeable down-at-heel detective. Beckler knows these streets, and it shows.’ —Antony Johnston, award-winning New York Times bestselling author
