Description
Most forms of meditation ask us to be still and quiet, to take time away from our lives. Dr Jenelle Kim introduces us to the practice of living meditation – myung sung – passed down through generations of Tao masters in her family, which encourages the opposite. Living meditation is a way of achieving peace while still being active.
Through ancient Korean wisdom and stories, and with practical tools throughout, this book will introduce you to the eight simple steps of living meditation:
1. Know your true self
2. The true-right-correct method
3. Stop being drunk on your own thoughts
4. How will you be remembered?
5. Seek connectedness and honour
6. Change your reality for the better
7. It only takes one match to light a thousand
8. Be like bamboo
Connect to your limitless reserves of natural energy and discover how your struggles – in work, relationships, health and money – can become less difficult.
Weave these ancient teachings into your everyday experiences to transform the way you live, and to uncover a sense of balance between the mind, body and spirit.

Dr. Kim’s narrative invites you to understand the balance it takes to not just live well but embrace yourself fully. This is her way of passing on knowledge that really matters by inviting the readers into this conversation. Her writing style is clear and concise and really reflects on the statements she is making. In The Korean Art of Living Well you are not giving a boring how to – but guidance on how to improve your self for the better of others. An in depth read that goes beyond the simplicities of the philosophy behind yin and yang.
Dr. Kim’s writing style is weaving memoir and biographical information about her father and experiences with each key element. She weaves this narrative through story in each section, and it helps to bring it together. You get a stronger sense of understanding as she applies it to real life situations and uses her father’s past and her own to teach. She uses every teaching moment to get her point across. The balance is in understanding, learning, and growing with that wisdom!

I love how Dr Jenelle Kim did a great job of organizing this book. First, she offers a brief description of each of the eight steps in the book. Next, she sets out how to use them in our own lives while also describing her father's experiences learning from a master. This is a very easy book to follow without all the unnecessary fluff most writers would throw in; however, at the same time, to properly follow it, would require time.
