Description

Love doesn’t always have to make sense …

When Daisy Penvean meets Nathaniel Dalton whilst visiting a friend in Nashville, it seems there are a million and one reasons for them not to be together. Nathaniel’s job as a mergers and acquisitions manager means sharp suits and immaculate hair, whereas Daisy’s work as a children’s book illustrator lends itself to a more carefree, laidback style. And, as Daisy lives in England, there’s also the small matter of the Atlantic Ocean between them.

But when Nathaniel’s job takes him to London to oversee the merger of a small publisher with a large American company, he and Daisy meet again under very different circumstances. Because Daisy works for the publisher involved in the deal, and if Nathaniel does his job, it could mean she loses hers …

Love Me for a Reason, by Angela Britnell, is a great read. The story is filled with emotion and humor, and the characters were quite interesting.

This book is about Daisy Penvean and Nathaniel Dalton. Daisy has a job she loves as an illustrator for children's books. Daisy lives in England, but she goes to the US to attend a conference, and then travels to Nashville to visit her friend (Sky) from art school. While she is there, she meets Sky's brother, Nathaniel. Nathaniel is totally focused on his career as a merger and acquisitions manager. When Daisy and Nathaniel (Nate) meet, there is instant attraction. Even though the chemistry is there, they are immediately faced with a huge problem...the fact that they live in different parts of the world. Will they be able to have a relationship across the miles? What happens when their jobs cross paths, and not in a good way? Will Daisy and Nate be strong enough to survive all of the obstacles they are suddenly facing?

I found the family stories of the characters to be fascinating, especially the manner in which Sky and Nathaniel grew up. I loved how laid back Daisy was, and how uptight Nathaniel was...it made for a good "opposites attract" storyline. In addition to that, the conflict between their jobs was thrown in, and it made for an interesting read with some unexpected twists. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about their journey, obstacles and all. I would definitely recommend this book.

I was given an advance digital copy of this book from Choc Lit and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I seem to be a on a winning streak with books at the moment. This is a really funny and emotional book with danger at times.

The love story between Daisy and Nathaniel is brilliant - imagine chalk and cheese getting together with fireworks. That's it in a nutshell! I love romances that spark and burn on and off - and plenty of misunderstandings as well!

The support cast are equally memorable - Nathaniel's parents are poles away from him and he keeps as much distance between him and them. Daisy is the youngest and is still treated like a baby by her family.

Throw in the fact that she lives in Cornwall and he lives in Nashville - and you can start to see there may be problems!

Great story with a couple of unexpected twists.

The premise of A. Britnnell's latest book, "Love Me for a Reason", appears to be that love can overcome all obstacles between people of vastly different backgrounds, philosophies and outlooks. Nathaniel nee Sunshine, born into a family of hippies in rural Tennessee, meets his younger sister's (Sky) former roomie from art school, Daisy, the youngest of a large, loving, but down to earth family from Cornwall, England. Sunshine, in order to survive the bullying and rejection by peers and pity from teachers enlists his uncle's help to put his upbringing behind him in order to succeed in the business world as an accountant, but he swings too far the other direction, and at least outwardly becomes a somewhat stuffed shirt workaholic, ocd in his living habits and addicted to expensive accoutrements and living in a sterile penthouse apartment, with no time or interest for a social life. Legally changing his name to Nathaniel at the earliest possible age, his saving grace is his very attractive appearance and the caring qualities he hides under his shell. Although close to Sky, he only makes yearly duty visits to his parents but pays their utilities, formerly frequently cut off due to nonpayment. His father who has long and cruelly mocked him for rebelling against the family's hippie lifestyle, is seen by Nathaniel in the worst of terms for his unfaithfulness to his marriage vows and refusal to take responsibility for meeting the family financial needs. Daisy appears at a critical point in life for "Nate" as she calls him, to ruffle his outwardly unflappable mien. The baby of her family and a bit smother loved, seen as the eccentric artist type and her work devalued, also needs to escape the current, somewhat cozy rut of her life. Attending a conference in the US, she scrapes up enough money to visit Sky and meets her older brother Nate, to whom she is strangely attracted. She can't resist teasing since arrousing his ire seems to be the only way to catch glimpses of the real man she is certain resides beneath the exterior. Although Daisy is nothing like Nate's envisioned type, and makes him supremely uncomfortable, he is strongly drawn to her inner and outer beauty. When the conglomerate Nate works for offers a deal to save the small struggling publisher of children's books (where Daisy happens to be an associate manager), she loses her position. However, when Nate makes a recommendation, she is offered a three month trial position in Nashville where Nate resides. Their relationship blows hot and cold, mostly due to Nate's quirks and inability to communicate. There are sufficient subplots well woven into the romance, along with in depth character formation and enough suspense to hold the reader's attention. Due to the acceptance and practice of pre and extramarital sexuality, though not explicitly described, I would not recommend this book to younger, formative readers. I appreciate the opportunity provided by the publisher and Netgalley to read the advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest appraisal.

Really enjoying the Nashville Connections books that I have read so far, and this one is a full novel instead of novella. It was a pleasure to read, and get to know all about Nathaniel and Daisy, and felt as though I really knew them, and their families by the end of the book.

Nathaniel is an incredibly handsome accountant who has a liking for good suits, cleanliness, order and precision. His life is very ordered and structured until he meets Daisy. Daisy, is a children's book illustrator, the baby of her large family and is a much more relaxed sort of person.

There is an instant attraction between them, and I had a very strong feeling about the ending early on in the story. However I thoroughly enjoyed all the bits leading to the end, including some shocking family revelations for Nathaniel, a colleague with a jealous streak for Daisy to contend with.

This is a lovely story about how two quite different people, can put asides their differences and just give into their base instincts. The book takes place between Nashville and also Cornwall and gives a decent sense of both places.

Love Me For A Reason is book 3 in the Nashville Connections series and like the others this is completely standalone. It's a transatlantic romance that I really enjoyed reading.

Thanks to Netgalley and Choc Lit for this review copy. This was my opinion.

I love the Nashville Connections series, and as this was the first novel in the series following two lovely novellas, I was really excited. Angela Britnell delivers a gorgeous romance, with fun, friends, family and angst all rolled into one delicious package.
I had to warm to our hero Nathaniel, because I could sense that one wrong move and he could really hurt Daisy, who I rooted for from the word go. She was quirky, fun and had a philosophy of life that I really connected with. So for me, Nathaniel had to work to deserve Daisy, and my favourite parts of this novel were seeing him come out of his work-is-everything shell and begin to accept the imperfect as perfect in its own way. I loved the psychological undertones to Nathaniel's character development, seeing his flaring up of OCD tendencies when he is reminded of his less-than-normal childhood, and how he clammed up and refused to talk about it.
Daisy was the perfect match for Nathaniel and their romantic moments were perfectly balanced with Daisy's jokes and banter, which Nathaniel had to come to understand and not take seriously. I adored how they became better people because of what they had learnt from the other. But it's not all sunshine and daisies for our main characters, and with the help of their friends and families, they had to overcome challenges, and make changes and allowances to make their relationship work.
5 Stars!
