Description

Thursday 1st September 2039. On the centenary of the Second World War, atheist scientist Chris Deckers exploits the planet’s most powerful computer to reveal something so cataclysmic it makes five thousand years of recorded human history – wars, empires, revolutions, the lot – look like an underwhelming warm-up act.

ERROR 404: GOD NOT FOUND.

Yup. According to the most intelligent intelligence on the planet, the big old guy, as advertised, is a big old lie, dreamt up by Bronze Age shepherds who figured the only way to stop everyone coveting their oxen was to invent a punitive sky parent with an eggshell ego. And they left irrefutable evidence of their shaggy God story behind.

Deckers should be rejoicing as his rational Eden is born. Instead, the baby’s screaming. Civilisation has lost its existential marbles and the God-shaped hole he crowbarred open is being rapidly filled by something far more sinister.

In a race to save humanity’s soul, Deckers must face the one question he never thought to ask.

What if faith matters more than facts?

This book is not what I would normally read, but I enjoyed it! I love the overall message and the pacing. I just wish it was expanded upon. I feel like I got the surface level of the story.

This is one of those books that will definitely live in your head rent free for an extremely long time after finishing it and that is if it ever leaves at all!! I absolutely LOVED the completely unique concept of the storyline which really does make you think about things for yourselves and that ending was just absolutely PUCKER!! It does not matter if you are an atheist or religious or what religion, belief or faith you follow you truly will love this book as it contains characters of every faith and non faith! With a fantastically unique storyline ram packed with humour, faith, questions, belief, humanity, history, life and it's meaning, wit, satire, fantastic characters, sarcastic AI, human nature, thought provoking questions, fun, laughter, drama, warmth, entertainment, banter and so, so, so much more what on Earth are you waiting for??? It absolutely captivated my attention from the very first page and kept me glued to the pages until the very last word and definitely left me wanting more!! Richard's amazing evocative writing skills and vivid descriptions will transport the reader into the story where you will see Chris determined to find the answers to whether there is a God and then having to deal with the consequences when his AI AKA Abraham tells him God does not exist and Chris decides to let the whole world know!! Probably not his best idea as he comes to realise! You will see everything that is going on around you and fall in love with the amazing and larger than life characters! I know I did! I was genuinely absolutely mind blown when I realised that this is actually Richard's DEBUT novel as it is written as if it is his 1000th!! If this is what he came up with for his debut then I cannot wait to read whatever he comes up with next! If you are a fan of The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams (who is also mentioned in this book) then you will absolutely LOVE this!! I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see this made into a movie with Martin Freeman (of course!) playing a part, probably too old for Chris but he definitely needs to be in it somewhere! This is one of those fantastic books that is perfect to read anywhere and everywhere from curled up next to a roaring fire to sunning yourself on a beach as regardless of where you are Richard will whisk you in to the story where everything and everyone will come to life at the turn of each page!! I absolutely devoured this book in one sitting as there was no way I could put it down!! Each and every time I even thought about it to get some actual house work done the characters called me back to demand their attention!! I absolutely loved Abraham and some of the attitude and banter he has really did make me laugh out loud!! One of the things I really enjoyed about this storyline is that it is unique to me as I had never read a storyline like it which always makes a lovely change after reading so many books as it is getting harder and harder to find something new. An absolutely brilliant read that will make your day brighter!!You need to clear your schedules because you will not be able to put this book down. AN ABSOLUTE MUST READ!!

Clear your schedules and enjoy getting lost in this laugh out loud, thought provoking, fun, unique addictive page turner!!

I absolutely loved the larger than life, unique and just fantastic characters that Richard has created for this book!! Thanks to his epic descriptions it truly feels like you are right next to Chris the rest of the amazing characters throughout. I absolutely loved meeting them and was rooting for them throughout. All of the characters are unique with their own personalities, weaknesses, flaws and strengths and I loved meeting and getting to know them all! The only downfall with the characters is that they are entirely fictional even though Richard brings them to life unfortunately, no matter how much I would love to, I am unable to meet up with them in the real world!! I was completely invested in them all throughout and I was gutted when the time came to say Goodbye even though Richard genuinely could not have ended the book any better than he did! Absolutely brilliant!! The fact that Richard genuinely care for his characters shines through the pages in the fantastic way he brought them to life and ensures their readers feels, sees and hears everything that they are. He truly does an absolutely amazing job of bringing the story to life and the characters leap out of the pages as your turning them thanks to his evocative writing skills and I enjoyed getting to meet them all!! It really goes to show how talented he is creating such a wonderful storyline and all these brilliant characters in his debut book. Richard's fantastic evocative writing skills really bring each of them to life. Pick up your copy of this book today and meet these fantastic characters yourself.

Clear your schedules as this is one thought provoking, unforgettable, fun, unique and unputdownable book❤️ Richard Ferrer welcome to my favourite author list as well as for writing my FAVOURITE READ OF 2026!!! I CANNOT WAIT FOR YOUR NEXT GUARANTEED SUCCESS!!!

Overall an absolutely entertaining, thought provoking, hilarious, UNIQUE, UNFORGETTABLE MUST READ!! ABSOLUTELY EPIC!!

This book was a refreshing new take on AI and religion. It was funny at times and really got me thinking about faith and how we as a human race rely on it.

What if there was no God? Not theologically speaking - literally, proven and undeniable. Incredible read!

This was definitely a thought-provoking read. The premise grabbed me right away—what happens when the smartest computer on the planet proves that God doesn’t exist? You would think that would be the end of the story, but of course, things get much more complicated from there.

I liked the way the book plays with the idea of faith versus facts and what people actually need to believe in order to make sense of the world. Chris is an interesting character, especially as he starts to realize that having an answer to one huge question doesn’t necessarily make life any easier.

There’s a lot going on here, and it definitely leans more toward big ideas and philosophical questions than a straightforward sci-fi story. Some of it was a little heavy-handed for me, but I still found myself thinking about the story after I finished it.

Overall, this was an interesting mix of science fiction, religion, philosophy, and a little bit of chaos. It asks some pretty big questions about what happens when you take away something people have built their entire lives around—and whether knowing the truth is always better than believing in something.

This is the kind of speculative fiction that I beg for-- so close to being possible, yet you know it's not...yet. This messy combo of religion, AI usage, and sociopolitical issues is just a gem of a novel. I could not stop reading it. Can't wait to suggest this for my book club and chat about it with friends.

This is a tricky one to review: its strongest point is its humour... but the humour also undermines the main themes.

This is a book with a point to make: it asks questions about the way we think and assume, and the dangers of certainty. But it does so in a parodied way, with the plot going to unrealistic extremes, and the characters reverting to Douglas Adams-style jokes instead of emotionally engaging with the consequences of their actions. So, for me, the comedy prevented the themes from making a deep impact. It was an interesting thought-experiment, but not emotionally engaging.

But without the humour, it would have been preachy. So, yeah... tricky.

Shout out to The Book Guild, Net Galley, and of course Mr. Ferrer for the ARC to give me a head start on this title.

Honestly, I requested this book on a whim because the main storyline grabbed my attention. The story takes us to a not so distant future where AI becomes so powerful that it is able to disprove God. A world where religion irrefutably disproven is not an idea I have explored.

The book is extremely well written, often concise, easy to read. There is an obvious influence from Douglas Adams with a dry, comical air despite some very deep and dark concepts. If there were a flaw in the book, it would be that the storyline almost feels secondary to exploring the impact of God being disproven, and quite frankly, it did not grab my attention. I kept the rating at 4 stars as opposed to 3 stars because this book did take some real estate in my everyday life. When seeing folks in church shirts, when passing churches, when reading about religion in news stories, Error 404 God Not Found, confused me because God had already been disproven? Oh wait, that's just the novel I was reading..

Overall, an easy and fun read. Great book for folks who are not Christian, are fans of Douglas Adams, and are looking to explore the concept of a world without religion. Is it exactly how I think things would go down? Probably not. Did I enjoy the book? Absolutely.
