Description
Have you ever been faced with a seemingly insurmountable task?
The lion hero, King Kenny, returns to succeed where others have failed. He may not be the tallest. He may not be the strongest. And he may not be the fastest. However, with courage as his weapon and armor, he goes to do the impossible.
The river has dried up, leaving the jungle without water, and Kenny must climb the perilous mountain and take on the Cave of Mysteries to save the jungle. Everyone expects him to fail.
King Kenny and the Cave of Mysteries offers a new allegorical spin on the story of David and Goliath. The second book in the award-winning tale of King Kenny brings an adventure filled with heart, humor, heroic determination, and a hero that young readers can relate to.

Kenny has always been overshadowed by his gifted brothers, and he's sure he can't find water for his villages when his brothers can't. Nevertheless, he sets out and keeps plugging along through clouds of bees and cacti until he reaches the cave. He destroys the crystals that show him as a weakling and does indeed get water to the village.
Maybe this book would lift up kids who have poor self images...possibly whose who feel that they could never outshine their siblings or friends.
This is a cute children's book. My 7 year old sun really liked the illustrations in this one. After reading it to him, he asked if I could buy it for him. So it is a win in our household.

This is a book featuring lions—aimed at preschoolers and/or early elementary schoolers—that conveys a message along the lines of "don't give up when things get tough, because that’s what makes you strong." I come across many similar books—both at school (through colleagues and parents, rather than for my own sake) and because of my own children—so the question is: how is this one different or new? Of course, a message can be conveyed to a child in various ways and repeated; not every book needs to offer something entirely novel. I liked the almost fantasy-like feel of it, and the illustrations aren't bad, even if the story's resolution is admittedly simple. But evaluating a children's book from an adult perspective is one thing; the real critic is my preschool-aged son. He liked it, though it is actually aimed at a slightly older age group than his.

Kenny is sure he can't find water for his villages when his brother's also aren't able to. Nevertheless, he goes on an adventure through bees and cacti until he reaches the cave. He destroys the crystals and does end up getting water to the village.
This book might be an inspiration for kids with lower self image and those who feel they could never outshine their siblings.
The illustrations were quite cute, but the font and coloring of it really wasn't it for me.
