Description

Sam was supposed to be celebrating his last day as the station janitor. His bestie Kai has thrown him a retirement party. There's even real fried chicken. But when he shows up late, still trapped in his maintenance suit, the party quickly goes to shit.

Something is spreading through the guests, something that turns them into savage, mutating creatures hungry for flesh. Within minutes, the partygoers are dead or dying, and Kai is transforming into something inhuman. His suit, bulky and suffocating, is suddenly the only thing keeping him alive. But it also means he can't touch or hear Kai, can't do anything but watch as the infection takes his best friend piece by piece.

There might be one way to save Kai. The infected still respond to their favourite songs. Sam just needs to find a subwoofer before the station tears itself apart, before the creatures hunting him finish the job, and before whatever cosmic nightmare birthed this plague completes its terrible purpose.

A darkly funny, brutally gory story about undying devotion set among the stars, DJ Decapitator is Dead Space meets Shaun of the Dead—for readers who like their horror with a killer soundtrack.

An early look at DJ Decapitator by Zed Dee—a wildly imaginative, high-octane sci-fi splatterpunk horror novella scheduled for official publication on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

The narrative follows Sam, an outer-space janitor looking forward to his involuntary retirement party thrown by his best friend, Kai. When Sam arrives late, still sealed inside his bulky, suffocating maintenance suit, he discovers a fast-moving, horrific virus has already turned the guests into mutating, flesh-eating monsters. Trapped inside his armor, Sam can only watch his best friend transform—until he realizes the infected still actively mimic and respond to their favorite songs, forcing him into a desperate race to blast a killer soundtrack before the station tears itself apart.

DJ Decapitator is an absolute blast of a book that demands to be read with your favorite music turned up loud. Zed Dee has crafted a deliciously weird, unrated, and wildly original survival horror story that breaks the traditional rules of the zombie genre. It is a mandatory Halloween pre-order for fans of sci-fi action, splatterpunk comedies, and retro B-movie creature features.

I really enjoyed the book.

DJ Decapitated was a wild, disturbing little horror read that definitely isn’t for the faint of heart. It has that gritty, over-the-top quality that kept me turning pages because I needed to see just how far it was going to take things.

There’s plenty of darkness, violence, and twisted energy throughout, and I appreciated that it didn’t try to play it safe. Some of the imagery is seriously messed up—and as a horror reader who is always looking for something different, that definitely worked for me.

Not every horror book needs to be subtle. Sometimes you just want something completely unhinged, bloody, and disturbing, and this delivered that experience.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.
