Description

A twisting cat-and-mouse novel, about desire, power and female agency, set in New York City’s historic women’s home, The Webster

It’s 2012 in New York and the intoxicating scent of opportunity hangs in the humid air. Twenty-year-old Theo has the world at her feet and a BlackBerry in hand. Visiting the city from Britain for a summer internship, she takes a room at ‘The Webster’, the last women’s residence in the heart of Manhattan.

She meets opinionated but inexperienced MK, caustic Magda and enigmatic Sylvie, whose envy-inducing job in fashion and access to the New York party scene quickly seduce Theo.

But in this slippery August heat, are anyone’s true intentions clear? Sucked into Sylvie’s world of glamour and excess, scarf tops and webcams, Theo blurs the lines of friendship and obsession, gaining an unforgettable education – in manipulation, choice and want.

A fast-paced, twisting novel of shifting loyalties, Girls! Girls! Girls! questions everything we hold true about self-determination and desirein a subversive yet instantly recognisable narrative.

Wait, this was actually so good.

I don't know what I was expecting, but this was not it. Might just add it to my "weird girl fiction" shelf, and that's great praise for a book I just randomly stumbled upon.

Okay okay so, "Girls! Girls! Girls!" is a story that follows Theo, a girl who moves to NYC for the summer all the way over from the UK for an internship. Over there, she chooses to live at an all girls' dorm-like place, where she meets a few interesting characters she gets along with. One of them particularly stands out, Sylvie, a very charming girl with too many secrets to count who draws Theo into an obsession that makes her turn around the course of her whole summer and make a bunch of decisions she would've never seen herself make otherwise....but maybe some of them were for the best? It's so cool to follow along with her growth as a character. Very satisfying story, start to finish.

Oh yeah and the writing! I loved it. The way in which the relationship between Theo and the girls is portrayed is awfully hypnotic for the reader, as I found myself fully captivated with no hope of getting out within the first 15% of the book.

I would recommend this to anyone who's into weird books about obsessive characters. You know exactly what I mean. ;)

I really enjoyed Girls Girls Girls by Tess Little and found it to be a compelling and thought-provoking read that explores the complexities of womanhood, identity, and the expectations placed on women. With an engaging writing style and an intriguing perspective on female experiences, it’s the kind of book that encourages you to reflect on the different ways women navigate the world and the relationships that shape them. One of my favourite aspects was the character development, which I thought was particularly well done. The characters felt interesting and layered, making it easy to become invested in their stories and the dynamics between them.

I also really liked Tess Little’s writing style which was engaging and drew me into the story, making it an enjoyable read from start to finish. I appreciated the way the characters and their experiences were brought to life on the page. The story explores the layers beneath the surface, touching on themes that feel both personal and relatable. It draws you into its world while leaving you with plenty to think about after turning the final page.

Overall, this was a book I thoroughly enjoyed, particularly for its strong character development and engaging writing. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a well-written, character-driven read, exploring the complexities of being a woman in the modern world.
