Description
Thief, treasure hunter, grave robber—Elath has a reputation for collecting the past, yet he has no memories of his own. Approached by the rich and mysterious Immalla, he is asked to retrieve the Prince of Lummalromahl's missing crown. Elath knows it will be a journey filled with danger and risk, not the least of which is Immalla's insistence on accompanying him, but finds himself compelled to agree.
What follows is an adventure across the perilous continent of Thrace, where Elath battles monsters and meets powerful mythical beings. Along the way he uncovers the truth about his violent and forgotten past, casting doubts on his future. New trials challenge him with the question: Who am I and what do I want to be?
Inspired by the folklore of Central Europe and the films of Ray Harryhausen, The Topaz Crown is an adventure fantasy about failure, triumph, and the creatures met in between. It is a story about finding yourself, and what to do once you have.

CROWNS. Fantasy. Power struggles. Secrets.
Yes, thank you. 😂
I loved the political intrigue in this one and the constant question of who could actually be trusted. Everyone seemed to have their own motivations, and I had a great time trying to figure out who was playing whom.
The world grew more interesting as the story progressed, and I became increasingly invested in the characters and what was at stake.
This was an immersive fantasy that gave me plenty of reasons to keep turning the pages.

This was a fantastic story. I had a great time with plot and characters along with the setting. This is just the type of story that captivates me as a reader to keep turning the pages.

I really enjoyed The Topaz Crown! The world-building was one of my favorite parts of the book. I liked exploring Thrace and all the different monsters and mythical creatures Elath encounters along the way. I especially liked Elath as a character. His journey wasn't just about finding the missing crown—it was also about figuring out who he really was. Since he has no memories of his own, learning about his past along the way made his character development really interesting. I enjoyed watching him deal with the person he used to be while trying to figure out the person he wanted to become. There are plenty of adventures, dangers, and strange creatures along the way, but I liked that the story also took the time to focus on Elath's personal journey.
Overall, I'd give The Topaz Crown 4 stars. I enjoyed the world, the characters, and especially seeing how much Elath grew throughout the story. If you like fantasy adventures with monsters, mythology, treasure hunting, and a little bit of mystery, this is definitely worth checking out!

Thank you to NetGalley and Benjamin Chandler for the eARC of The Topaz Crown - all opinions are honest and my own.
This is a book that if you enjoy epic fantasy, sprawling landscapes and lots of worldbuilding then you would enjoy this book. The descriptions of the creatures our MMC meets along the way are vivid, and the story of Elath regaining who he is was entertaining to read.
The pacing is an issue for me: I found myself struggling to read the middle portion of the book because of this, and I struggled to focus on the page I would potentially re-read this book further down the line to see if this is still an issue.
Overall it wasn't a bad book it just wasn't for me unfortuneately.
