Description
What you will find here is different.
The Siege of Intense Fear is a hybrid work that begins with a historical fiction narrative set in ancient Greece and later develops into a personal, philosophical, and practical exploration of intense fear, panic, anxiety, depression, obsessive thoughts, resilience, and ancient wisdom.
Through the historical narrative, the protagonist encounters two major wisdom traditions of antiquity, guided in part by the Socratic method of questions and answers. No prior knowledge of philosophy is required. The story gradually examines the ideas and patterns of thought that can feed intense fear, while Socratic dialogue provides a structured way of questioning and examining those thoughts.
After the historical fiction, the book moves into a practical and reflective section that explores meditation, observation, and exercises intended to help readers look more closely at obsessive fear, understand its impulses, and approach them with greater awareness and clarity.
The book draws on more than 35 years of lived experience with major depression, anxiety, panic, obsessive thoughts, and intense fear. That experience informs the discussion throughout the book and is combined with philosophical reflection and practical observation.
An honest warning, stated plainly:
This work does not underestimate the importance of proper medication for depression and anxiety. Nor does it offer quick solutions or false promises. A book, by itself, is not a guarantee of self-control; it is information. Putting that knowledge into practice requires participation, honesty, and perseverance.
The purpose of the book is to offer readers a clearer framework for understanding intense fear and obsessive thought through the combined perspectives of lived experience, historical fiction, ancient philosophy, meditation, and practical reflection.
