Harness the power of the Enneagram to learn about yourself, maximize your strengths, and improve your relationships.

Pronounced ENN-EE-UH-GRAM, stemming from the Greek words ennea (nine) and grammos (a written symbol), the Enneagram is a centuries-old categorization tool that classifies human personalities into nine interconnected personality types.

Learn—through in-depth descriptions, illustrations, and more—how to assess how you think, feel, and experience life, so that you can correctly identify which of the nine types you are.

  • Type 1: The Improver/Reformer/Perfectionist (Life Strategy: “I must be perfect and do what is right.”)
  • Type 2: The Helper/Giver/Befriender (Life Strategy: “I must be helping, caring, and needed.”)
  • Type 3: The Achiever/Performer/Motivator (Life Strategy: “I must be impressive and look accomplished and successful.”)
  • Type 4: The Individualist/Romantic/Artist (Life Strategy: “I must be understood uniquely as I am.”)
  • Type 5: The Investigator/Observer/Theorist (Life Strategy: “I must be knowledgeable and equipped.”)
  • Type 6: The Loyalist/Skeptic/Guardian (Life Strategy: “I must be secure and safe.”)
  • Type 7: The Enthusiast/Optimist/Epicurean (Life Strategy: “I must be enjoying myself and avoiding pain.”)
  • Type 8: The Challenger/Protector/Advocate (Life Strategy: “I must be strong and outside the control of others.”)
  • Type 9: The Peacemaker/Mediator/Reconciler (Life Strategy: “I must maintain peace and calm.”)

I love the Enneagram and the way that it helps us understand ourselves and others better. This book does an excellent job introducing folks to the Enneagram overall and it visually, clearly lays everything out. The graphics in this are absolutely terrific and crisp. The book also talks about healthy practices, ripple effects, lies, how to love each type, and many other practical applications and knowledge points. I teach the Enneagram to high schoolers and I anticipate that I will be purchasing a copy of this for myself so I can use it for next year. I'd recommend this book both for those just diving in as well as for those who have more knowledge about the Enneagram already.

I am and have been for a long time a huge fan of the "personality type" genre of books and learning devices. I love when I can learn more about myself and how I relate to others who are alike and different from me.

I have read a few books about Enneagram and by far this one has become a favorite of mine. The way they lay out how they will describe each type and the detail on each type is just outstanding. I love that within each type they start with a generalization about the personality behind the type and then show positives and negatives and then the things that each type should do for self care. This for me was of course interesting to read about my type, but was even more enjoyable for the types that are different from me. I almost appreciated the chapters that I didn't define as myself more than the ones that hit close to home!

I would recommend taking an enneagram test before reading this book, so you know your type and you can read all the chapters to see how you relate to each type, but really find the details about your own type.

What's Your Enneatype? An Essential Guide to the Enneagram is book that describes the Enneagram types in detail in a very easy-to-understand way. It's sectioned out very well and it's straightforward.
While I'm not the biggest fan in the Enneagram typing myself, I found the book informative and interesting - it can give a good perspective on how others might be feeling and how to manage your relationships better.

I've always been curious about enneagram types and this book gave clear descriptions of each of the nine types. It was fascinating to learn about each type and see myself, friends, and family members reflected in the dominant personality characteristics. This guide is a great beginning guide that is easy to understand and reflect on your individual type, if you are so inclined. I also like that the book's authors promote empathy throughout, so that one is empathizing with WHY someone reacts to situations in specific ways, rather than judging them for it.

I was introduced to the Enneagram several years ago by a friend. I was initially slightly sceptical until I took the test and read about my personality type and saw how eerily accurate it was.

This book provides an excellent introduction to the Enneagram and the different personality types whilst also being of use to those who are more familiar with the tools involved. It is beautifully presented with excellent graphics and is easy to follow and understand.

I particularly enjoyed the sections relating to loving and understanding those around you and how they perceive certain situations as well as the sections on self care and healthy practices.

A very useful and insightful book. I would highly recommend.

This book is a great introduction to the Enneagram. It's well laid out and easy to follow. I especially loved the colour scheme and guidance of the book. Great book!

(Netgalley ARC) Beautifully illustrated, although I would have like there being more on the history / development of the enneagram and more resources to figuring out which enneatype you are aside from reading about the individual types, and also how to figure it (once you know your enneatype) if you have a wing and which you are. I am not sure I would have felt as confident of my enneatype had I not come into this book already having taken a test and had it verified several times through additional research.

A concise, easy to understand guide for the enneagram curious. The book is divided into colorful, engaging chapters that lend insight to oneself and others, with actionable healthy practices for each personality.

I was first exposed to the Enneagram of Personality through work where various personality tests and assessment are used to better understand workplace interpersonal-dynamics and improve working relationships. So I knew what my Enneatype was going into this book but I was hoping to re-test myself to see if I came out with the same results as I've gotten on previous occasions. So I was more than a little surprised to see that there was no test and readers were encouraged to read through the different types to discern which best matched them. This can be quite onerous for the casual reader as the book is about 170 odd pages and may dissuade them from picking it up in a bookstore or online.

However, if you look past that, this book provides a wealth of knowledge to those that are new to the subject. This includes a summary, primary motivations for the enneatypes, how they integrate, their subtype, and unlearning lies and behaviors that motivate each number.

"Enter the Enneagram, which demands you understand that self-knowledge is not an end in itself, but rather an invitation to grow."—What's Your Enneatype?

My best friend and favourite person in the world is an Enneagrammer (a word I’ve just invented for those passionate about the Enneagram). And over the years, she’s really rubbed off on me.

The Enneagram has provided much fodder for our inside jokes and dynamic (she’s an 8w7, I’m a 7w8—it’s a BLAST). We hang out and analyze the heck out of our friends and family (turns out my dad’s an 8, and I’ve since become much more sympathetic to him). Most of all, she and the Enneagram have helped me understand and give words to parts of myself I’ve always struggled to articulate.

Fundamentally, the Enneagram is a framework for understanding ourselves: the fears and motivations at our very cores. These qualities are unique to each of us, shaped by our individual biology, traumas, relationships, and experiences. And What's Your Enneatype? is a fantastic jumping-off point for Enneagram newcomers of the 21st century.

If you’re familiar with Hannah Paasch's work, this book reminds me of Millenneagram: The Enneagram Guide for Discovering Your Truest, Baddest Self. It’s got the same modern sensibilities and easy-to-consume diction—just less heavy on the pop culture references, profanity, and Gen Z-speak.

This book is also brimming with splashy vectors, and features a cheerfully minimalist aesthetic. It's a compilation of the content that authors Josh and Liz have posted on their Instagram account (@justmyenneatype) these last 2 years.

There’s theory/background to start, and then we delve into personalized chapters for each type. (Information about each Enneagram type is easily identifiable because they’re grouped by a colour scheme developed by the authors.) We’re given advice for cultivating thriving relationships with friends of a certain type, and helpful pointers about “nested lies”—misconceptions—that we tell ourselves.

What's Your Enneatype? equips us with tools to better understand ourselves, for example through somatic/emotional check-ins and tips for self-care. Most importantly, we gain invaluable insight into the aspects of ourselves that are incredibly difficult to own up to—the thorniest, not-so-pretty bits of our self-conceptions. Endgame? To help us transcend our everyday selves to become someone even greater.

My only complaints are that 1) the blocks of text tended to be dense and hard to read (and the font didn't help), and 2) I found some of the text repetitive. For example, discussion of the relationship between 4s and 7s occurs in each type’s respective chapter, but nothing new is added in the second occurrence—they’re essentially rephrasing or straight up repeating what was said earlier.

In all, definitely an accessible entry into the world of the Enneagram that I'd recommend!

I always think that guides to personality types are fun to explore.  I have done the Meyers-Briggs test in the past and found the results to be interesting.  What's Your Enneatype presents 9 personality types; for example, The Improver/Reformer/Perfectionist; The Helper/Giver/Befriender/ The Peacemaker/Mediator/Reconciler, along with the other six to total nine types. See where you may belong as you explore.

Readers of the book will learn what an enneagram is and is not, how the three descriptors for each type relate to each other, and ways NOT to use this tool. Take a look.  See where you think you fit and maybe learn a bit more about yourself.

"What's Your Enneatype? An Essential Guide to the Enneagram" by Liz Carver and Josh Green is a book that breaks down enneatypes, which are categories that people can be divided into based on personality traits. The book explains how to use this information to improve levels of self actualization, interpersonal relationships and overall happiness.

The opening of the book was extremely helpful in understanding not only what the Enneatypes are but also how knowing yours can be helpful. Then, it goes on to explain in detail each type and subgroup. I like that the book included the subgroups because it helps to better understand the variations of people within one Enneatype. The work also does an excellent job of highlighting the fact that all of the nine types are interconnected and the woven tapestry of life is multidimensional, diverse and beautiful. The section on subtypes, stances and wings was a little confusing to read at first so I did find myself re-reading that part. However, I found all of the information relevant and interesting to read.

A very informative but easy to read book on all the types. Goes into great detail on all the 9 types in a very readable way. Although its not a big book, it packs a punch. I've always been interested in this subject and eager to find out more but can definitely recommend this book whether your new to it or been familiar with it for years. Another great book for a gift as its for everyone.

Highly recommended.

Thank you Quarto Publishing and Netgalley.

This is a short little book about the Enneagram, but it gives great information. There is a general discussion about the Enneagram and then it breaks down each type. This is a great intro to the Enneagram in a user friendly format.

I have never been a fan of the enneagram (or other tests TBH) but for some reason I really wanted to read this book so in preparation for it, I took 6 tests online just to see how consistent they would be, and of course, they disagreed with each other. But through the process, I found a number that I thought might be the most likely fit for me.

Thanks to this lovely and beautifully designed book, I was able to dig a bit deeper and the more i read, the most it resonated with me. I have since read several other books and have now become slightly obsessed with enneagram (like so many seem to be.)

This book is not a fully standalone book. It doesn't have a test (but you can easily find several online for free.) and it doesn't go into pages and pages and pages of depth for each number but it does have a lot of the basic and layered information for each number. So if you're like me and wanted to take the plunge but didn't think you could ever really find your number, this might be a good fit for you, too. And if you know your number and appreciate well-designed books, you will love this, too.

What's Your Enneatype? An Essential Guide to the Enneagram by Liz Carver is a great book.
As a beginner, the book helped me understand the nine different Enneatypes and determine the one that best fits me. I also see this being a valuable resource for those familiar with Ennegram to have as a reference when looking to apply the principles to better understand themselves and those in their lives.
The information was laid out in a way that made sense and was visually appealing, and I learned a lot about myself and found a lot that resonated within my type. Additionally, the book talks about wings, which provides more than just the nine major types.
Many thanks to Fair Winds Press and NetGalley for the advance copy.

I am obsessed with my enneatype, so I was thrilled to review this essential guide. I'm a 7 through and through, but I didn't really know WHY. I took a quiz online and knew I was a 7, but I wasn't sure how to apply that to my everyday life. I loved the in-depth chapters about how to learn more about myself and how to deal with others based on their enneatype.

I *loved* the self-care charts for each type. Mine for 7 was RIGHT ON TARGET. This is going to be a great gift idea for my friends so that I can teach them about their type and they will learn more about me. Thanks for letting me review this book, NetGalley!

I’ve heard a lot of people talking about their enneagram number. I loved this book explained so much to me and taught me so much about this. I recommend this to anyone who is curious about this or wants to learn about it.

I really enjoyed the graphic nature of this book. It's exactly the type of colorful and easily digestible type of nonfiction that I enjoy.

I am a true devotee of everything-enneagram. I've read a few books before this that all felt a little too similar to each other. So, I was pleasantly surprised that this book provided a lot of new insights for me. It's a quick read but the writers have managed to pack quite a bit in on every page.

As soon as you know your enneagram type, I recommend checking out this book to find out more details about how you can use your strengths to your advantage and how you can avoid disintegration into unhealthy patterns. Some of my favorite elements included warning signs for each type and how you can help someone who's a particular type. The structure of the book felt super readable and the vibe never strayed too far off into 'woo woo' territory. There's a frankness about this book as well which I really appreciated - to want to truly work on yourself you need a little honesty!

If you're not a fan of the enneagram craze, you still might be able to find some useful info (even if it's just some suggestions on how to provide yourself with self-care options). Either way, this book is a definite must-have if you love enneagram-themed books but are hoping for something with a little extra flair and fun!

I have read through several Enneagram books and resources, and this one has by far been the most helpful. I've been following the authors' Instagram account for a while, and I love that I was immediately able to recognize their branding by just seeing the cover. The design of this book is stunning, and the information inside is extremely insightful. It includes information about each type's stance, the subtypes, common lies believed by each type, a check-in evaluation tool, and so much more. I have already preordered my copy and begun recommending it to friends.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group, and the authors for allowing me to receive an advanced reader copy!

What's Your Enneatype? An Essential Guide to the Enneagram, has been a most intriguing read. As a complete newcomer to the notion of what enneatype and enneagram's are, I've found this book very informative, and the theories of personalities per type has given me food for thought.
The usage of graphics has really been a breather for me, as I'm used to as of late anyway, reading up on theories in a dry bland academic way.

Thank you netgalley and the publishers for offering me a copy for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley for the copy of this book.

This was really interesting. However, I recommend taking the test and knowing your Enneatype beforehand, as this book does not offer a way to figure out what it is, if you have a wing, etc. There's some useful info but it can also be repetitive at times.

I was not able to read this on my kindle because it only had a PDF version, but was able to read on a friend's other device. I would have enjoyed reading this at my own on my own device because friend gave me a time constraint so I had to skim read this. The review isn't about the issues with viewing though.

About the actual book? I like how it encompasses your type from the Myers-Briggs personality test but delves deeper in its own categorization. You can tell the author is passionate about the research for the topic. I would lile to learn more about Enneatypes.

I think this book is very complete and at the same time compact.

I loved the book layout and the colors.
( Probably won't be so visual in a Kindle type reader)

One thing I would have loved it would be some sort of test to identify your own enneagrm.

Although with the information provided it's easier to associate or find similarities with one type or the other.

As a not knowledgeable in the enneagrm person I see myself revisiting this book.

Since I do believe understanding this is key to enhance human relationship and also understanding oneself.

What's Your Enneatype? An Essential Guide to the Enneagram is the first book I have read about Enneagrams. I've heard the buzz about Enneagrams for the last couple of years and Liz Carver and Josh Green do a phenomenal job describing the Enneatypes. I couldn't believe how spot on my type was for my personality and my life! If you want to understand yourself better and make improvements in how you see yourself, flaws and all, this book is a must read. I am reading this in ebook form, but I will most likely be purchasing a few copies to pass on to my family members.

I just found out about the world of enneatypes, and this book popped up on the titles page. I'm now obsessed with finding out as much as possible about enneatypes, and I loved this book. It's a great resource for those just new to the world, and it is a great essential guide!

"What's Your Enneatype?" is an in-depth, fun way to learn more about the Enneagram. I was quite sceptical about this personality framework but as a previous believer in the MBTI, I am converted for good. The Enneagram is an extremely interesting topic and thanks to this book, I was able to discover my type. Each type has a section, which is divided into different components that make up the particular type. This is a book that I will be recommending to friends and colleagues and hope they find it as useful as I have!

This is a brief guide to the 9 Enneagram types. It's short, but packs a big punch! There is no "enneagram test" in the book, but rather all the types are described - with some reflection, you can likely figure out quite easily to which category you belong. It provides an overview of the types, the strengths and weaknesses of each type, various subtypes, and advice for healthy relationships with different types.
The book uses visual aspects to describe the different types, and the graphics are engaging and beautiful. My only complaint is it is a bit short, however, this makes it great as a quick reference point or a beginner's introduction.
I think enneagram amateurs and aficionados alike can benefit from this guide to the Enneagram. 4 and 1/2 stars.

What's Your Enneatype? An Essential Guide to the Enneagram by Liz Carver and Josh Green is a great primer for people just starting to learn about the Enneagram. The information presented was done so without overwhelming the reader and included lots of helpful graphics to emphasize the salient points.

This book is perfect for the reader interested in the more secular aspects of the Ennegram - as opposed to many of the books on the market which focus on spiritual growth from a very Christian perspective. If you come from a faith outside of Christianity or find faith discussions generally off-putting, this book will be a refreshing change of pace from many of the current crop of Enneagram books.

I would recommend taking an online test before reading this book, so you have an idea of what type you might be. After reading the introduction, you do not have to read the sections in order. You can start with your number and the move your way around the circle. This book is a great start for anyone looking to start their Enneagram journey.

I liked that the book started with the background and theory of enneagrams. Too often, I read books that jump straight into exploring the 9 types. Each of the 9 types were thoroughly described. The authors also added plenty of life and relationship advice as it related to each number. Excellent read for those delving into enneagrams.

I had never heard anything about Enneatypes before seeing this book on NetGalley. I wanted to start reading more non-fiction texts and this certainly hit the spot. Despite not knowing exactly which Enneatype I am, I found each one fascinating and felt like it helped me understand myself more and the motivation behind the behaviour of people I know.

This guide presents a LOT of information in a very accessible and easy to understand way. I'll definitely be coming back to it again to check in with myself and make sure I am treating those around me fairly. I've already made my partner pick it up and I'll certainly be recommending it to other people as well.

GREAT way to understand the different Enneatypes. I had been seeing the enneatypes floating around in popularity on the internet and had absolutely no idea what they were or which type they were! I saw this book and knew I had to read it! When I took online tests I kept ending up with completely different results. This book allowed me to understand what the enneatypes were and which I fit into! Thanks for the great guide!!

This is a good place to start for researching Enneatypes. For newbies, think of it as a personality test (9 main personality types with combination links) which can help you to better understand yourself, your strengths and weaknesses and this contains practical reminders of beliefs that people with certain enneatypes might struggle with, e.g. beliefs about themselves, others and behaviours that may be exhibiting, It is a good tool for self reflection.

I would advise people to read it all first, then do a free online test then reread the types that they are aligned most strongly with.

Overall, well recommendable.

I received a free digital ARC through NetGalley. This is a very comprehensive guide to help you discover your type. Easy to follow and jam-packed with information.

I recently took an enneatype / enneagram test after seeing lots of posts shared on Instagram about corresponding characters from movies and personality traits. I took one of the more popular tests and have to say, I like it a lot more than the traditional Myers-Briggs result. Thus, I was excited to see this book was an option for review, especially considering that the authors are behind some of the popular content. There is something fun and engaging about discovering facets of your personality, even if you think it's a bit difficult to paint everyone with broad strokes. The hype around enneagrams actually, in my opinion, is a reflection of how much we all love to explore psychology and try to understand what makes us.... us.

This is why I like this book: it's like taking the test and then getting the add-ons for free. Like, the little parts of the profile that the tests want you to pay to access? Like the job, relationships, and weaknesses/strengths portions. How you can improve your life. That's the self-help part of the book, but it's also part of the fun of enneagrams.

I suggest this book to anyone that ever found personality trait tests interesting, even if they're wary of self-help as a genre. It's like an extension to the test!

As an author myself, this book was fascinating in helping to create personality types as well as researching my own and my families. I have read other's in this genre and this one really sticks out.

Outstanding!! I adored this new book on the Enneagram. The conversational tone makes this something you could hand to any reader. There's information here for newcomers and also for those who have been working through Enneagram material for awhile.

Covers basic information for each type, wings, moves in stress and security, triads and stances. One of my favorite features is the description of what the world would be like if everyone was one particular number.

The visuals here - from the color scheme to the graphics that are consistent from number to number, but tailored to each one - are fantastic.

I have read a lot of Enneagram resources over the last few years, and this one is a new favorite.

I've taken personality tests before, but this is the first time reading a book about Enneatypes. As another reviewer stated, it may be good to take an enneagram test before reading the book; that way, you know your type and relate to the details described in each chapter.

What's Your Enneatype? An Essential Guide to the Enneagram: Understanding the Nine Personality Types for Personal Growth and Strengthened Relationships by Liz Carver and Josh Green is an excellent introduction to enneagrams, and it was fun applying the information to people I know. The book goes into detail on each enneagram type and the subgroups. I liked that the book was divided into different colors for ease of use. What's Your Enneatype is quite informative and easy to use. I would recommend this book that is rich in information, great resources, and engaging graphics.

Having recently heard about this subject I was excited to learn more. I really enjoyed this informative guide to a subject that helps me learn more about different types of people and how to relate to them. Recommended.

I felt this was a really good guide for those starting out with enneagrams. It starts out with some basic info on enneagrams and explains that you can have characteristics of more than one type and that there are also other things that influence your number. Then sections cover each of the nine numbers, with great descriptions on motivations, how you behaves when stressed (showing signs of other numbers), things you need, subtypes, lies you tell yourself, the way forward, and especially helpful couple of pages on "if you love a (number)." There are also healthy practices and self care suggestions listed specific to your number.
The intro recommends reading through the whole book and making some notes when you really identify with the information to help figure out which number you are. I was able to tell from the first few paragraphs of each section if I identified with that number or not.
There is a lot of great info in here, in charts and easy to understand writing, to help learn more about your personality and motivations.

I am a sucker for the quizzes on the internet about "what kind of person are you?" and "what job should you have?" because I love to get that insight. This book was good because it was a good place to start if you're new to the enneatype, and it offers a lot of insight into the personality types.

I loved this book! I am a big fan of using the enneagram and this was a beautiful book exploring the 9 types, filled with colorful illustrations and gorgeous formatting.

This may be the best book on the enneagram that I have read yet (and I have read a lot). I have followed the authors on Instagram for a while and have always enjoyed their posts so when I saw that they had a book coming out I was very excited. There is a lot of information packed into this book, but it is done in a way that is very easy to read and understand. This book challenges me in my weaknesses and affirms me in my strengths of who I am and also helps me to understand the people that are around me.

I really enjoy the layout of this book, with the different colours for each number and the illustrations that are used well to demonstrate different facets of the enneagram. This is a book that I will definitely be purchasing a copy of for my own home library and to lend out to others to help them to learn more about the enneagram.

I love learning about the enneagram, and this book is a great, comprehensive look at all nine of the enneatypes. The main focus throughout this book is to encourage the reader to move beyond simply a knowledge of the enneatypes by applying that knowledge to making self improvements. However, the book is not overly negative in calling out the unhealthy character traits in each type to be changed. Rather, it encourages readers to analyze themselves honestly, and to be motivated by the many positive character traits that are also inherent to each enneatype.

I love that this book covers many aspects of the types, such as the sub types, wings, triads, and stances. Many books don't cover the sub types, yet they are very important in explaining how people of the same type can be very different. Overall this book was beautifully designed. The graphic design elements were fun and aesthetically pleasing.
