Such a great read. Some of the women in this book I had heard about but not the entire story. The author goes into great depth about how the women in the book were able to make their way through the world. At the end of story she has a question for yourself and another question for a friend. The questions really make you think and question your own thoughts and ideas. I read this in two nights as it was written so well. This should be required reading for all school children. They are enthralling enough for middle schoolers and high schoolers alike.

This is the kind of history that is not taught in school, but should be. These women made huge contributions to the lives of those around them, as well as contributing to the future we have. Sharon Spaulding obviously spent a great amount of time and effort to bring their contributions to print. This is one book that should be read and shared.

I picked up this title to add to my African American History Month, but found it has a broad racial and cultural events. Its a good library resource for children opening access to untold stories that children can begin research with. The warriors of the women's movement range from Suffrage to racial problems. The game changers are inventors and women whom change the perspective of society. The empire builders add to society by their hard work, investment and leadership. The Visionaries change our perspective and focus as a society and world. The paradigm changers are those women whom broke the glass ceiling or limitations of people by race or sex. The bold are women who put everything on the line for social and political change. The keepers of the soul change our perception of spirituality and religion.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me access to this title in exchange for an honest review.

The title caught my attention first, then the cover. Before even starting this book, I was excited to see what kinds of stories I would be exposed to and how they could potentially help me see the world a little differently.

Right from the dedication, I felt a surge of emotion. My first thought was, “This is going to be good!”

I LOVE the inclusion of conversation starters at the end of each story! Perfect for introspection, a classroom discussion, or a book club meeting.

The true stories shared in this book are an inspiration to anyone with a conscience. The quotes included in each woman’s story are good conversation topics in themselves, too.

5/5 for bringing education, conversation topics, facts, and both names and faces to some of the many women who army crawled through decades of crap so women today can soar.

"Nothing is impossible if one applies a certain amount of energy in the right direction. If you want to do it, you can do it."
— Attributed to Elizabeth Cochrane [aka Nellie Bly]

This book weaves a rich tapestry through the actions of each incredible woman mentioned. From the famous Nelly Bly to the lesser known names that deserve recognition. I found myself totally surprised that many of these woman really weren't alive that long ago in the grand scheme of things. This is the history you were never taught in school, but could have potentially changed the lives of many young girls. We're worth so much more than a pretty face. I would argue that everyone should read this. And how wild that one of the woman mentioned is still with us today. I am in awe.

"I had much rather starve in England, a free woman, than be a slave for the best man that ever breathed upon the American continent."
Ellen Craft, 1852

Quite enjoyable. I loved how each chapter was short, quick to the point. Something that will keep readers engaged and children will get the point easier. Highly recommend!
