¿Dónde está Perro Grande? Una historia de pérdida y amor is a cute and relatable book about the underplayed but inevitable loss of a beloved pet. It seems like a great read especially for children, but honestly works for everyone too. The illustrations are so beautiful as well! My favorite pages were the ones where you see the dog in everything, from dreams to the carpet. It is difficult to write such a long review for a book without so many, but it was a touching and great story anyways. I used it to brush up on Spanish as well.

This book is perfect for children who have recently lost a fur animal and are having a hard time. It is also the perfect length. Not too long, not too short. If you’re a parent that does not like to read paragraphs, this would also be the right book for you.

This was so cute and sad. I'm always wishing my dogs could live together forever. I'd recommend reading this to a child to help them cope with the loss of a pet.

I cried my eyes out, just as I expected from the moment I downloaded this book, but it was completely worth it. I’ll carry this story in my heart forever, hoping that the day I have to lose my dog is still very, very far away.

Una hermosa y enternecedora historia sobre el duelo y nuestros peludines

Es un libro que encuentro tierno y precioso para niños (y, ¿por qué no?, también adultos), que trata el duelo y el vínculo con nuestro amigo peludo de una forma sencilla, natural y sentida.

Las ilustraciones: si hubiera un Óscar, iría para ellas. Son tiernas y expresivas a la vez, y la elección de la acuarela es simplemente perfecta: crea una atmósfera suave, soñadora y emocionalmente profunda. Una vez leído, si intentas imaginar el libro con otras ilustraciones, pierde mucho de su encanto.

Si hay que poner un “pero”, se lo pongo a la traducción al español (porque se nota que se ha hecho en esa dirección). En ocasiones resulta forzada y poco natural, lo cual es una lástima, porque sería una herramienta ideal para quienes comienzan en el mundo bilingüe.

En resumidas cuentas: es un libro reconfortante que no puede faltar en las estanterías, tanto de lectores que están viviendo una pérdida como de familias que tienen o están pensando en dar un hogar a estos fantásticos compañeros de viaje: nuestros peludines.

This book is a great way for readers to process their emotions. Even though specific emotions were not mentioned, you could feel them as the character felt them. The inability to speak, the lingering sadness, the gloomy mood. I loved how it turned hopeful, seeing Perro Grande everywhere and knowing that no matter what, he will always be there. You learn to live with the grief and integrate it in a hopeful way. I very much related to this thinking about my past pets. Great story!

«¿Dónde está Perro Grande?» es un cuento infantil que narra la historia de una niña que un día pierde a su mascota. A simple vista, parece un tema muy sencillo, pero es bien sabido que la pérdida de alguien a quien queremos es muy difícil de comprender y de asumir, incluso para los adultos, así que para los niños debe ser otro mundo.

Por eso precisamente me llamó tanto este libro. Quise darle una oportunidad y no podía haber tomado mejor decisión 💜, no solo porque trata este tema de una forma muy tierna, sino porque el mensaje se transmite muy bien (tanto que hasta se me ha escapado una lagrimita) 🥲

Además, las ilustraciones son preciosas, estilo acuarela, y se complementan genial con el texto.

“Where Is Big Dog?” is a children’s picture book that tells the story of a little girl who one day loses her beloved pet. At first glance, it may seem like a very simple premise, but it’s well known that losing someone we love is incredibly hard to understand and accept—even for adults—so for children, it can feel like a whole different world.

That’s exactly why this book caught my attention. I decided to give it a chance, and I couldn’t have made a better decision 💜 Not only does it approach this topic in a very gentle and tender way, but the message is conveyed beautifully (so much so that it even brought a little tear to my eye 🥲).

On top of that, the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous, with a watercolor style that complements the text perfectly.

En este breve relato acompañamos a una chica que sufre la pérdida de uno de sus perritos, el más mayorcito llamado Perro Grande, y como maneja todos sus sentimientos, los cambios de rutina, la gente pregunta por él etc. Es un libro que en un muy corto período de lectura introduce a los niños a todo lo que conlleva la pérdida de tu compañerito de vida, como eso afecta tu vida pero también como sigue habiendo vida después de un suceso tan desolador.

Las ilustraciones son tipo acuarela, con el uso de una paleta de colores preciosa y más bien suave, agradable para los ojitos de los más pequeños e incluso algo nostálgico para los mayores. Las ilustraciones a veces están conectadas entre una página y otra, jugando así con la disposición y dinamizando la lectura, pero sin despistar ni interrumpir esta. Además, no se siente cargado entre las ilustraciones y el texto, siento que se ha encontrado un balance muy bueno que podría mantener la atención de los niños en la lectura sin sobrecargar ni sobre estimularlos.

Aunque no parece ser una lectura recurrente a la que los niños quieran volver, siento que no está solamente orientado a aquellos que acaban de sufrir una pérdida, sino también para enseñarles lo que significa una pérdida así antes de que esta ocurra. No es una lectura de noche, sino de una maña o tarde en la que los pequeños puedan interactuar libremente con este nuevo concepto, hacer preguntas o incluso entristecerse al pensar en una pérdida futura. Aunque cada pariente tiene que ser consciente de cuando sería un momento adecuado para instruir sobre un concepto así, siento que es muy necesario y este libro puede ser el indicado, ya que también acaba con un mensaje positivo y esperanzador. La muerte y pérdida es algo inevitable, pero siempre que el amor permanezca, también lo hará su recuerdo y presencia.
