I'm getting more interested in the science behind why we do things. I found Catherine's book to be interesting and well-written. I like how it combined her personal accounts and mixed it with advice and tips and easy-to-understand science stuff! I want to know more about why I do the things I do and how I can make changes in my life. This book helped! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
The author, psychologist, shares her journey from addiction and self-destruction to awakening and living in Oneness.
As she shares her personal stories, she blends it with scientific knowledge, spiritual teachings, and practical tools in order to align our body with soul and the Source.
She grew up in a family of scientists with high expectations, and her not being good enough led her to addiction and self-destruction. When she had a near-death experience at nine years-old, that’s when she had her first spirit communication but the connection with her spiritual path came much later. As it happens with most cases, we need to go through certain experiences, often painful, in order to wake us up and start connecting the dots and seeing where those dots lead.
We, humans, struggle with seeing the whole picture. How good and bad events in our lives serve a purpose, not for us to become victims, but to wake us up to see a bigger picture. Thus, the author presents her own story to make a point. How her rejection and abandonment led her to seek other’s approval and love, which further resulted in addiction and abusive relationships. But her greatest suffering became her biggest gifts for spiritual awakening.
The author also points, to what many others stated before and proved through their work with people who healed themselves, that the spirit runs our body, thus, we have this spiritual ability to heal ourselves. The physical body is the manifestation of the flow of information in the spiritual body. Also, we all have psychic abilities, and we know things without knowing why, but we have been programmed to disconnect ourselves from the inner knowing.
Through her own story, she offers a guidebook how to clear the clutter of societal conditioning in order to live from the spiritual center.
This book offers a range of information, overview of physics and how the universe works, insights from neuroscience, and spiritual concepts from Eastern philosophies. This information is mostly brief thus not overwhelming in its scope. The author’s personal experience reinforces what she teaches about healing ourselves from different conditions which mask our emotional traumas which need to be release.
The informative part is clearly written, the personal story is presented with conviction, and spiritual wisdom shines through it all.
Spirit Guided is a reflective, steady-paced read that focuses on personal growth, intuition, and spiritual awareness. Catherine Williams approaches the subject with clarity and sincerity, creating a book that feels grounded rather than abstract.
The writing is straightforward and accessible. Williams does not rely on overly complex language or vague spiritual jargon. Instead, she explains concepts in a way that feels practical and approachable. This makes the book especially useful for readers who are newer to spiritual exploration or looking for guidance they can apply in everyday life.
One of the book’s strengths is its emphasis on self-trust and awareness. Williams encourages readers to pay attention to their internal cues and patterns, rather than outsourcing meaning entirely. That focus gives the book a sense of balance. It does not present itself as having all the answers, but rather as a guide to help readers think more intentionally about their own experiences.
The structure is generally clear, with ideas building on each other in a logical way. However, pacing can feel uneven at times. Some sections are tightly focused and insightful, while others repeat similar themes without adding much new depth. This does not undermine the message, but it does affect momentum.
The tone is calm and supportive throughout. Williams avoids being overly prescriptive, which works in the book’s favor. At the same time, readers looking for more concrete frameworks or step-by-step methods may find parts of the book too open-ended.
Summary:
Spirit Guided offers a thoughtful, accessible approach to intuition and personal spiritual development. While it could benefit from tighter structure and more varied depth across sections, it succeeds in creating a grounded, encouraging reading experience. A solid four-star read for those interested in reflective, self-guided growth.
