Description
What’s the thing you keep telling yourself you’ll do tomorrow?
Maybe it’s writing, exercising, or finally starting that project. You care about it. Yet another day goes by, and you’re making the same promise again.
I’ve been a professional procrastinator pretty much since birth.
Things with deadlines usually waited until the last possible moment. Things without them were almost always saved for tomorrow. Meanwhile, I kept regretting all the things I still hadn’t done.
Working in educational technology taught me how to turn ideas into tools people can use. So I kept trying to build something that could help me change, too.
After more than fifteen years of trying things out in my own life and revising the tools, that work became The Self-Inception Lab.
But here’s the paradox: nobody was making me write this book or build these tools. For a professional procrastinator like me, this whole project should still be waiting for “someday.”
Yet here it is.
Because I finally found a way that worked for me.
What if you didn’t have to talk yourself into it every time?
Opening that project because you feel like working on it. Going for a walk without first having the usual argument in your head. Finding yourself automatically doing something that used to sit on your “someday” list.
The idea is to let your own experience quietly change your mind. The method is built into simple, ready-to-use tools that help you see familiar activities differently—and let what you discover begin to shape what you feel like doing next.
Drawing from my years designing educational platforms for elementary students, I’ve tried to explain the theories here so simply that a child could understand them, though admittedly, that isn't always easy. The good news is you don't need to fully grasp the concepts to start experimenting, because the methodology is already built directly into the tools. Whether you choose the free web app, printable pages, or the provided examples, you will naturally come to understand the theory simply by using them.
The Self-Inception Lab will also be available in paperback and hardcover on December 1, 2026. Thank you for checking out this ARC NetGalley! I would love to hear your honest thoughts and see how these tools work in your own life.
