This was such a fascinating, cool, mind-blowing look at real-life applications of science using biomimicry with creepy crawlers, fungus, plants, and more. I love how each topic is explained, then taken in a new direction, followed by a vignette of a real scientist who is studying this topic. Readers will be drawn in by the engaging comprehension questions, and learning how each scientist was inspired to go into their field.
I highly recommend this fun and educational book for schools and libraries.
Loved! One of the best kids' nonfiction STEM-related books I've read. This book is really fantastic: engaging and informative, with lots of age-appropriate scientific terms and concepts explained and illustrated. And speaking of "illustrated" -- I loved the combination of quirky & fun illustrations, technical diagrams, and photos. It makes for a highly engaging nonfiction text that could've easily been quite dry instead.
Another excellent feature of this book is highlighting individual STEM researchers who are currently working in each of the featured fields. Each field features a page with a blurb about the researcher and a few interview questions and their answers -- and not only about their work, but also about other aspects of their lives, what they find interesting, how they got into STEM, etc. There are also a few questions for the reader to think about or discuss with others.
I would highly recommend this book for any upper elementary or middle school classroom or home library. High school students might also still appreciate the book, especially for the representation of a diversity of perspectives.
