Description

I thought silence was my strength

The silence around symptoms, around loss, around the truth of what our bodies are trying to tell us is where many of our stories begin. Too many of us have pushed through the debilitating period pain, the loss of another miscarriage, and broken relationships in silence. But what Tanika Gray Valbrun has learned is that breaking that silence is also where our strength is born, and where the fight for awareness, dignity, and healing truly begins.

From Fibroids to Freedom empowers you to take charge of your health and advocate for your needs. Dr. Hawkins, a renowned fibroid expert, covers management and treatment options, so you can find the right care team for you and speak up for yourself with confidence at the doctor's office. It also covers everything else in your life that is affected by fibroids, including their emotional, mental, and financial toll.

Whether you are newly diagnosed and feeling overwhelmed or actively undergoing treatment, this book is your essential companion. Written by Tanika Gray Valbrun, the founder of the White Dress Project, a nonprofit dedicated to providing support to fibroids patients and raising awareness about fibroids, and Dr. Soyini Hawkins, a Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeon and women's health advocate, From Fibroids to Freedom will show you how to face your fibroids journey with strength and resilience.

I thought this book was very informative and educational. I have a fibroid that I have been told is not removable due to it being submucosal. The information in this book has led me to believe I need to get a second opinion. Maybe there is an end to this fibroid without a hysterectomy. I really hope so. I do find myself lucky that I don't have multiple fibroids. The one is painful enough. I love the thorough explanations an guidance in this book. It has been truly helpful. Thank you to Tanika Gray Valbrun and Soyini Hawkins, MD for writing it. Thank you to John Murray Press US | Sheldon Press and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

From Fibroids to Freedom blends personal experience with practical guidance for women navigating uterine fibroids. Tanika Gray Valbrun shares her own journey while explaining treatment options, questions to ask healthcare providers, and ways to advocate for yourself throughout the process. One section that stood out was the discussion of the emotional toll fibroids can take alongside the physical symptoms, reminding readers that the condition affects far more than just their health.

The book strikes a thoughtful balance between education and encouragement without minimizing how difficult this experience can be. The information is presented in a way that feels accessible, and the author's firsthand perspective adds credibility and compassion throughout. My sincere thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a free advance review copy.
