Nina Parr has always felt a bit different from her peers - her father died when she was a baby, her mother didn't cope terribly well and the most stable influence in her young life was an elderly lady who lived in the flat on the top floor called Mrs Poll. Mrs Poll always reads a book to her about the butterfly house and it always has significance to her as her father died on an exhibition searching for rare butterflies
Teddy lives at Keepsake a remote house in Cornwall that is left to the female line of the family and is full of tragedy. In 1938 she runs away from her tyrannical father and goes to London where she falls in love and has the best time of her life, her butterfly summer, but what will happen when her father finds her and drags her back to Cornwall.
When she is in the British Library Nina meets an old lady who seems to know her and keeps calling her Teddy and leaves her old photographs - determined to find out what it is all about Nina decides to do some research into her father's side of the family that she knows nothing about but will she find more than she bargained for?
A great story that had me hooked right from the beginning - the two stories dovetail well together and so help you to see the whole picture with lots of twists and turns along the way
