This is a beautiful book for those who struggle with eating disorders or body image. This is nicely body positive with journal prompts.

Do you ever wish you could compile in print all the therapy sessions and warm heart-to-heart conversations that make you feel better about food and your body? That's how this book feels.
100 Food Affirmations has a little something for everyone and for every season of your life. This does mean that you might see affirmations you don't care about now, but you might also see affirmations that feel like a revelation or a gut punch. There's a range! And it definitely depends on how you, as the reader, show up. That said, the only reason this is a 4 star read instead of a 5 star read is because it can get a little repetitive. Repetition is necessary for affirmations, and I get that, but it's a little tricky in book format.
I won't spoil it, but the last page is so beautiful. It will forever change the way you think about hope. I know it changed the way I think about hope!
P.S. It's cool to be the first Goodreads review!!! Thanks for the ARC.
What a powerful resource! As someone who has been on some sort of health program for the past 20 years, I could have used these affirmations and the reflection component on each and every one of those ventures to strength my mind-body connection. I look forward to buying a copy when it publishes!

This is a nice, simple little book of body positive affirmations in black and white. Each one has one page with an affirmation of one or two sentences and a facing page with things to ponder, questions to ask yourself, or more information.
For example:
I am not required to choose the “healthy” option when eating with others. I am allowed to choose what sounds good to me.
“Healthy” is a relative term depending on what you need emotionally, physically, and situationally. Choosing something for the acceptance or validation from others can be performative. How might you feel choosing what you actually want to eat?
It will be a good fit for people working on ending unhealthy diet patterns and people who want to develop a more positive relationship with their bodies. I personally found it less helpful because I am working on eating healthier and losing some post-menopausal weight (partly on the advice of my doctor to help with health issues and partly because I feel better when I am more fit and eating healthier) and I would like encouragement for that rather than so much reassurance that anything I do is fine.
Another reviewer mentioned something beautiful at the end and I went back to see if I missed something. I find the 100th affirmation fine and I won’t ruin the supposed surprise, but I’m not sure I agree with it being phenomenal or anything.
All that aside, this is a positive book that is likely to feel comforting to many people who want to stop feeling bad about their bodies or their eating and exercise habits.
I read a digital ARC of this book via netgalley.
This book was beautifully done. A mix of affirmations and journaling. It actually really did help me feel in touch with my body and start my journey to healing my relationship with food!
100 Food Affirmations by Christyna Johnson is a body positive collection of affirmations about being kind to yourself and your body. Ultimately, this book is about caring for our bodies with gentleness and compassion.
There are affirmations about ageing and body positivity. I especially liked the revelation that our bodies are meant to tell a story; we aren’t supposed to look the same as we did at 20. It’s something we all know, but often forget, and it’s worth reminding ourselves of. Another important message is that the scales don’t measure our self-worth.
For anyone who struggles with diet culture, this book is a supportive reminder of our strengths and capabilities. Scattered throughout are tips and reflection questions to help you pause and think, as well as book recommendations and Instagram accounts to follow.
It is a great book to keep for yourself and also to give as a thoughtful gift.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.

This book came to me at the perfect time. Many of these affirmations will join my regular rotation, and the reflection prompts were to-the-point but still incredibly powerful. This really helped me realized some patterns that I have been stuck in for way too long, and what I can begin to do to get out of them. Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC!
I’ve struggled with my relationship with food for years, feeling guilt, confusion, and pressure to eat a certain way. This book felt like a breath of fresh air.
The 100 affirmations are simple but powerful. Each one gave me something to think about, something to hold onto when I felt stuck in old patterns. The reflections helped me be gentler with myself and start to shift the way I think about food and my body. What I appreciated most is how kind and non-judgmental the tone is. It reminded me that food isn’t supposed to be stressful or full of shame. It’s meant to nourish and bring joy.
If you’re looking for support in healing your relationship with food, I truly recommend this book. It’s been a gentle and encouraging companion on my journey, one page at a time.
A huge thanks to NetGalley, the author & the publisher for the opportunity to read this advanced copy!!!
I really enjoyed this one.
It was easy and quick to get through so I finished it in two hours. Since it consists of affirmations and short reflections, I decided to read it in one sitting.
I found this book extremely comforting and helpful, and while it can’t be a replacement for actual therapy when one is struggling with their relationship with food, it certainly brings a layer of understanding to an already difficult situation. I did see myself in some of these quotes, and I definitely felt called out in some occasions, which led me to reflect on things that I didn’t even know I was doing with an intention to stay thinner. Furthermore, the conciseness of it all was a great choice, as I believe these type of messages need to be delivered in a simple way.
Thoughts:
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I think this book will be helpful to so many people with its approach to self-love and body positivity in more than one form. I loved that some of the initial affirmations could be applied to disabled bodies (like mine) and then prompt 12 explicitly mentioned chronic illness and I knew this book would be amazing for me to help heal my relationship with my body in more than one way. I also love the way in which Johnson actively tries to combat diet culture and disordered eating which means I will likely turn to this again in the future if I begin to struggle again.
Favourite Quote:
“The thoughts and beliefs I have about my body didn't start with me. I learned them along the way from the people and institutions around me.”

This was a good book to remind you of the purpose of food. It wasn't anything earthquake shattering, but a good reminder.

This is a quite remarkable book for someone who has spent a lifetime feeling guilty about food. The author gently and patiently gives permission, in 100 different affirmations, for the reader to set aside the complex emotions that have interfered with his or her relationship with food, and to begin to enjoy food again. I particularly like the assertion that it’s never too late. I am 75 and have been plagued with food hang ups since I first hit double figures. Following on from each affirmation are a series of practical steps that can be taken to make the statement a reality. I am reviewing this book in digital format. I definitely think a paper copy would be more useful. I would write all over it and engage fully with the suggestions. It’s harder to do this with an e book. This book is a very brave attempt to counter diet mentality and put the reader back in control. Above all, it is kind, positive and very encouraging.
